My Classmate Bragged About Her Dad’s Yacht, Unaware My Mom Paid for It Chapter 02

I dug my nails hard into my palm, forcing down the wave of nausea rising inside me.

Jasmine noticed nothing. She was still whining sweetly into the phone.

“Dad! Why does the yacht you bought me need a fingerprint to unlock?”

“I brought the whole class here, but now we can’t get into the main cabin. Hurry up and have someone open the access for me.”

Gregory stammered on the other end of the line.

“T-That system is complicated. It’s an imported system.”

“Daddy’s out of town for a meeting right now, so I can’t operate the system remotely.”

“You kids can enjoy the sea breeze on the deck for now. The lower level is pretty spacious too, so just make do this time. Next time, Daddy will take you himself.”

After that, he hung up without giving Jasmine a chance to respond.

The busy tone echoed across the empty marina.

The scene became painfully awkward.

Ryan curled his lip impatiently.

“So after all that, we can’t even get through one door?”

“If I’d known this was going to happen, I would’ve stayed home and played games instead of baking in the sun.”

The boys’ complaints made Jasmine visibly humiliated.

She suddenly whipped her head around, redirected all her anger, and locked her eyes on me.

She stormed over and shoved me hard in the shoulder.

“Chloe Shaw, what is that look on your face? Are you laughing at me in your head?”

Her shove sent me crashing into the yacht’s hard metal railing, and pain shot through my back so sharply that cold sweat broke out across my skin.

“I didn’t say anything,” I said, forcing the words out through the pain.

“And now you’re talking back?” Jasmine snapped, as if she had finally found a target for her anger. She pointed at my nose and cursed, “A broke nobody like you has probably never even set foot on a yacht deck before. My dad is doing this on purpose so we can build character by seeing how regular people live.”

Still hoping Jasmine might come through with some kind of perk, the boys immediately chimed in.

“Exactly. What’s wrong with the lower level? It’s still better than the crappy house some people will never be able to afford in their lifetime.”

Jasmine finally felt back in control and lifted her chin.

She pointed toward the stairs leading below deck.

“If we’re here to experience regular life, then there should be rules.”

“The guys can rest on the deck. The girls will wait on them and serve drinks.”

“Chloe, go below deck right now and bring up the two huge coolers from the lowest storage level.”

“Why do I have to carry them by myself?” I stared at the coolers, each of which had to weigh dozens of pounds, and gritted my teeth as I pushed back.

“Because this yacht belongs to my family.”

Ryan walked over, grabbed my wrist, and yanked me roughly toward the lower deck.

“Jasmine told you to go, so go. Quit running your mouth.”

I could not break free. He shoved me down the narrow stairs so hard that I nearly tumbled all the way down.

In the ninety-degree heat, I limped back and forth on my injured leg, hauling heavy ice and drinks by myself.

Sweat soaked through my clothes, and every drop that seeped into my wound made it sting with a sharp, piercing pain.

Meanwhile, Jasmine sat beneath the shade umbrella, being waited on by several girls as she sneered at me, watching me gasp and struggle.
