My Cheating Boyfriend Thought I Was Obedient—So I Married Someone Else Chapter 12

A month back home. My mom started off warm and welcoming. Now the patience was wearing thin.

I’d quit my job out of nowhere. She never asked why.

Instead, she kept complaining about losing sleep. Kept pushing me into more blind dates.

One night I crept into her room in the dark and shook her awake. Asked if she wasn’t sleeping pretty

soundly.

She smacked my shoulder. “You little menace-”

I couldn’t fight her forever. I finally caved under her pressure and went to meet the next one.

What surprised me was the man who showed up. Broad shoulders, narrow waist. Sharp features. High nose, thin lips.

Not quite Kael-level striking. But his presence and the way he held himself made up for it.

My guard went up immediately. This place had men like this? Mrs. Song might’ve walked me straight into some romance scam.

We got through dinner. The conversation flowed so naturally it felt like a meeting of minds.

I was absolutely sure now. This was definitely a scam. Targeted.

No one made every sentence feel that genuinely enjoyable unless they’d trained for it. Or had inhuman emotional intelligence.

After a long while, something finally clicked. “Right. What was your name again?”

He looked at me and smiled, a little helpless.

“Elara Song. You seriously don’t remember me at all.”

I studied his face. Still nothing. “I’m sorry. You’re-”

“Silas Hale.” He introduced himself. “Back in high school, my parents moved overseas. I came back recently for a research project. Single. No major red flags.”

I let out a soft “Oh.” “You’ve changed so much. And you actually remember me.”

He’d been the top student. Good-looking. Glasses back then. A classic academic overachiever. Now

he was all icy, restrained charm.

I stuck to my blind date script and asked again. “So. My mom probably didn’t tell you. Any kids we have would take my last name. You’d be okay with that?”

He blinked. Then smiled.

“I can do that. Not a problem. Besides, I’ve always believed the final say on having children belongs

to the woman.”

I looked at him. No trace of joking on his face. He’d thought about his answer.

Honestly. Logically. The moment he said those words, I knew.

If I was considering marriage, Silas Hale would be a solid choice.

But my heart hadn’t swept out its dust yet. I couldn’t do that to someone.

Silas dropped me off downstairs. I watched his car pull away.

Behind me, a voice cut through the cold.

“One day later and I would’ve been sitting at your wedding banquet, wouldn’t I?”
