My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 07

The light above the emergency room stayed on.

Aiden couldn’t care less about the investigation team anymore. He just stared at that closed door, stubborn

and dazed.

In his hand was the medical file, already crumpled from being read over and over.

One year ago: suspected cancer.

One month ago: mid-to-late stage cancer.

Just a few days ago: advanced terminal cancer.

Just a few thin sheets of paper. But they weighed so much that it crushed his breath.

His heart felt like it was being ripped apart, with tiny shards of glass ground into the wounds.

He couldn’t stop going back in his mind.

When exactly had it started? How had he spotted no warning signs at all?

He remembered forcing Naomi to sign the divorce papers. The blood that poured out of her. So much it

soaked through her clothes in seconds.

He remembered at the hospital, how he’d told himself it was just a dry nose. How he’d ignored her bony arms

and her face drained of all color.

She’d been trembling visibly, gasping from crippling agony!

But what had he done?

Used their own son to threaten her into submission.

Used violence to make her let go.

Tied her up under the bulletin board for half a day.

What had she been thinking then? How much had it hurt her?

He felt like he was dying from the pain right now. Naomi must have felt a hundred times worse.

A raw howl escaped Aiden’s throat. He grabbed his own hair and pulled. His composure was completely

shattered,

He slapped himself across the face, again and again, with all his strength. One hit was enough to make half

his face swell up.

It wasn’t enough. A little surface pain like this couldn’t touch the infinite agony and suffocation inside him.

It was as if even fate wanted to pile on one last straw.

The emergency doctors started working frantically again.

Low, urgent voices drilled into his ears.

“Only five years old, poor kid. He was already swollen when they found him.”

“What a tragedy. He was still clutching a little tiger pendant even in death.”

“There’s nothing we can do. Call the family.”

Aiden turned his head stiffly.

Too many blows had already bent his once-straight back.

But mounting panic and despair drove him to glance instinctively at the hand sticking out from under the

white cloth.

That familiar little tiger pendant was a casual gift he’d picked up for Enzo while away on a business trip.

Enzo had been so excited he couldn’t sleep. For days, he kept playing with it, unable to put it down. “Dad, this is for me, right? I love tigers! This little tiger stands for me. When I grow up, I’ll enlist just like you and

become the bravest tiger in the military!”

Aiden heaved painfully, his chest racked with ragged gasps.

He stumbled over to the bed.

He shoved aside everyone in his way and ripped off the white sheet.

Enzo’s pale, thin face appeared in the air.

The pain and despair of his final moments were still frozen on his face.

As if asking Aiden: Dad, why did you abandon me? Why didn’t you save me?

Aiden fell to his knees. A man who had never shed a tear even while bleeding and fighting for his life was

completely broken.

Tears streamed down his face as he begged the doctors in desperation. “That’s my son. Please save him…

Please. He’s still so young.”

The lead doctor pulled down her mask. She looked at Aiden coldly and let out a harsh laugh. “Now you regret

it?”

She was Naomi’s primary doctor. The one who knew Naomi’s situation best.

“What were you doing before? When Naomi first suspected cancer, I begged her to come in for more tests. You know what she said? She said that after Melody reported her, no company would hire her anymore. And

you, her husband, you didn’t give her a single penny.”

“The money she earned sewing clothes for people had to feed the family and raise her son. Where was she

supposed to find the money for treatment?”

“Naomi kept saying she’d get a checkup once they had the money, yet the visit got put off for a whole year until her illness grew beyond saving.”

“Aiden, even a killer deserves a quick end. You pulled her out of that barren valley and promised her a happy life-was it all just to torture her slowly, cutting her down little by little for ten whole years?”

“Did you try to torture her to death just so you could live a sweet, carefree life with Melody?

Aiden collapsed there, completely broken. His soul seemed to have been sucked out of him. All he could do

was mumble in confusion. “No… that’s not right…”

“Enzo is my son. Naomi… is the wife I loved deeply. I really planned for the three of us to be a happy family

together.”

“How did this happen… Naomi and Enzo… they both left me?”
