My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 01

My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 01

A female researcher under the protection of my husband, Captain Aiden Stone, was caught in a sudden accident.

Her memory became disordered, and she believed Aiden was her husband.

The second she was apart from him, she would scream and thrash about, utterly unable to live on her own.

To help her recover, Aiden followed orders from their superiors and pretended to be her husband. Meanwhile, I, his real wife, got shoved into the shadows as the dirty little secret.

In the first year, she labeled me the homewrecking other woman and doused me head-to-toe with lab chemicals; I narrowly escaped permanent disfiguration.

The next year, she penned an official complaint letter and sent it to my workplace. I lost my long-held job at the textile factory overnight and got blacklisted collectively by the entire industry.

By the third year, I got into a serious car crash, yet Aiden drove straight past me without so much as a sideways glance, desperate to avoid arousing her suspicion.

Time and again, I consoled myself that all my suffering was part of an official mission, a necessary personal sacrifice for the greater good of the country.

Everything shattered when she filed another accusation that aimed to have me publicly executed as a cautionary example for illicit extramarital affairs.

That was when I overheard Aiden talking privately with the unit clerk.

“High command never ordered you to pose as Melody Yates’s husband. This arrangement was entirely your own call,” the unit clerk said. “If we fail to verify Naomi’s real identity right now, she’ll face execution.”

Aiden’s voice was full of righteous conviction. “She’s a captain’s wife. For the greater good, she has to tough it out.”

“Melody is the lead researcher at the institute. Compared to some housewife, she’s worth more. She can serve the country better. Her condition has improved so much over these two years. We can’t let all that progress go to waste.”

I let out a bitter laugh.

Her illness was almost cured. But me? I was about to die.

“This is absolutely ridiculous!” The unit clerk’s voice was thick with anger. “When Naomi was pregnant with your son, you said you were afraid Melody would get suspicious. You didn’t give Naomi a single penny.”

“Naomi nearly bled out during labor because of malnutrition. Then Melody got a mild headache, and you gave the medical quota to her instead, plus a whole week of you staying in the hospital by her side.”

The cold in my heart spread, freezing me solid.

When I gave birth to our son Enzo, the doctors said I was too weak. It was touch and go.

The monitor was screaming in my ear. Blood was running down the birthing bed—warm, sticky, endless.

It felt like my lower body was being ripped apart. I didn’t even have the strength to call for help.

All I wanted in that moment was to see Aiden.

But his adjutant turned me away, saying Aiden was tied up on an urgent week-long assignment.

I swallowed every ounce of hurt and told myself it was for the greater good.

But the truth was, he’d been right there in the next room the whole time.

While I clung precariously to life in the delivery room, he was busy tending to Melody, catering to her every whim as she suffered from a splitting migraine.

While I sobbed all night from the burning ache of my incision and every solitary trip to the bathroom was sheer torment, he was simmering nutrient-rich soup to build up Melody’s strength.

“We’re at a critical stage with the weapons research. Nothing can go wrong with Melody. It’s my duty to protect her.”

“Naomi is my family. She should have a higher level of awareness. Besides, she grew up doing farm labor to toughen herself up and has always had a sturdy constitution. Childbirth is merely a trivial ordeal she’s fully capable of enduring.”

Aiden’s tone remained unyielding, calm and rigidly impartial as ever.

The unit clerk let out a weary sigh. “How much longer are you going to keep avoiding suspicion?”

“All these years, everyone on the outside has believed that Melody is your wife, and Naomi is just some mistress who won’t leave you alone. Even the kid—they call him a bastard.”

“Enzo is growing up. How’s he meant to process such cruel slander?”
