My Army Captain Husband Posed as Another Woman’s Husband—I Jailed Him Chapter 02

Aiden’s breathing grew heavy. After a long stretch of silence, he said, “I owe Naomi everything. Once Melody fully recovers, I’ll clear Naomi’s name publicly and spend the rest of my life making amends to her and Enzo.”

The unit clerk hesitated, swallowing back unspoken words. “I’ve gotten word lately that Naomi’s collapsed multiple times…”

“That’s enough.” Aiden cut him off, firm and final. “I know Naomi. She’s always been tough. She’s been through the worst with me. She’ll be fine. At worst, I can sneak home more often to check on her.”

I bowed my head slowly, staring down at the medical records in my grasp, and burst into a bitter laugh as tears streamed nonstop down my face.

I was his lawfully wedded wife, yet he had to sneak around just to come home to see me.

I’m wasting away from terminal illness, yet in his eyes, my sickness counted for nothing, and my life was worth far less than Melody’s.

Five years ago, Aiden received official orders to safeguard Melody.

On the way, they got hit by a mudslide. Melody took a blow to the head. Her memory scrambled, and when she woke up, she thought Aiden was her husband.

Torn away from him for even a moment sent her into screaming, thrashing fits. She was incapable of holding down a job, let alone managing basic daily self-care.

Aiden believed it was his own negligence that caused her condition.

The man who was always so tough and unyielding dropped to his knees in front of me. He kissed my hand, his eyes red. “Naomi, I’m so sorry to put you through this, but I have to make amends for my mistake.”

“Once Melody’s condition stabilizes, I’ll come back. I’ll make it up to you properly.”

In the first year, I’d only dropped off Aiden’s freshly laundered military uniform when Melody mistook me for a homewrecker and doused me head to toe with lab chemicals; I barely escaped permanent facial disfigurement.

The following year, she filed a formal complaint with my employer. I lost my position at the textile factory and wound up blacklisted across the industry.

By the third year, I was involved in a car crash. Aiden drove past with Melody riding beside him. He spared me only a fleeting glance before rolling up the car window to avoid suspicion. “It’s covered in blood out there, disgusting, don’t look.”

Melody’s laugh drifted over, smug and taunting. “See? There’s always a price for stealing another woman’s husband!”

Late at night, Aiden would always slip into my bed and hold me firmly in his strong arms. “Hold on a little longer, Naomi. The day we can come clean is almost here.”

Then one day, Melody squatted down in front of Enzo and started teaching him to talk.

“Who is she?”

“That’s my mommy.”

“Wrong.” Her smile was vicious. “She’s a slut who sleeps around. And you, nobody even knows which bastard fathered you.”

Something snapped inside me. My eyes burned red. “Melody, you’re insane! Aiden and I are lawfully…”

Before I could finish my sentence, Aiden lunged forward and clamped his hands around my throat to cut off the words spilling from my lips.

His eyes turned dark, his tone laced with menace. “Naomi, I’ve made myself perfectly clear. Melody is my lawfully wedded wife with a legal marriage certificate. Please stop bothering me.”

His fingers tightened, cutting off my airflow. I teetered on the brink of suffocation and thrashed desperately, my throat and lungs burning as if ready to burst.

He loosened his grip just before I blacked out, and I crumpled helplessly to the floor.

I held Enzo’s trembling body against me. I couldn’t tell if the pain was from my body or my heart anymore.

After leaving, I walked straight to the duty room—the only place with a telephone.

“Hello. I’m filing a formal complaint. Aiden Stone married me eight years ago, with a valid marriage license. For the last five years, he’s also been living with Melody Yates as husband and wife. According to the laws, that makes him guilty of bigamy.”

The voice on the other end turned serious. “Ma’am, bigamy carries heavy sentencing under the ongoing crackdown. Are you absolutely certain of your accusation?”

I answered without hesitation. “I am certain.”

“Understood. In seven days, an investigation team will be sent to look into the matter and take action.”
