Me & Child: Fake Lady’s Stepping Stones Chapter 06 Undisguised Glee

Cassie grabbed the rope right out of Tyler’s hands. Tyler, snap out of it. The pros already said Monica’s gone. Going down there now won’t change a thing.

“I guess it was just Monica’s fate. She probably wanted to be with her two babies anyway. In a way, she got her wish.”

A fake tear slid down Cassie’s cheek. But for the first time, Dad saw the unmistakable glee in her eyes.

It suddenly hit him-how completely fake she was. Even her words sounded grating now

How could she say something like that?

Weren’t they still sisters, even without sharing blood?

For the first time, he felt a flicker of doubt about everything he’d done.

Why had he poured all his affection on an outsider like Cassie, while neglecting his own daughter?

Cassie’s parents were the real criminals behind my kidnapping. Cassie had lived the good life all those years-a life that should have been mine.

When we were switched back, he should have sent Cassie away for good.

What the hell had he been doing?

Disgust and anger rose inside him at the sight of the undisguised glee in Cassie’s eyes.

Dad’s eyes turned ice-cold as he spoke without mercy. “Monica is my biological daughter and your sister. Even without blood ties, when it comes down to it, you’re the one who owes her.”

“How can you smile when you know she’s dead? Cassie, how did I never see how vicious you truly are before?”

The more he spoke, the more a desolate emptiness filled his heart.

Monica had never been at fault. It was him, Tyler, and Cassie-they were all the ones who owed her.

Yet despite that, he had arranged for those men to assault me, all because of a few words from Cassie. All so the children in my womb could be used for the blood sacrifice, all to protect Cassie.

Those were his own grandson and granddaughter.

They should have grown up healthy and loved under his care, healing the pain I had carried for decades.

But he had destroyed it all.

How could he have done such a thing?

He thought about how just moments ago, they had a real chance to save me.

But when Cassie cried out, they’d turned without hesitation-and that split-second decision cost me their reaching hands.

He remembered the numb, lifeless look in my eyes just before I fell.

Dad couldn’t bear to imagine the depth of my despair-the hope of being saved, then having it ripped

away.

Maybe Monica died hating us.

Dad couldn’t bear to follow that train of thought any further. He snatched the rope from Cassie’s hand

After securing it, he began his descent down the cliff face.

Whether I was alive or dead, he had to find me. Even if only my body remained, he couldn’t let the wild animals take me.

Watching Dad descend without hesitation, Cassie turned and clung to Tyler’s arm.

She said, “What did Dad mean by all that? Wasn’t I doing this for you guys? Why are you acting like this over someone who’s already gone?

“And let’s be real, isn’t it better that Monica’s dead? Now we can be together openly, and Dad won’t have to worry about her fighting me for the company anymore.”

Since Tyler was her simp, Cassie felt comfortable letting her guard down around him. Plus, Dad’s harsh words had genuinely stung, so she didn’t hold back with her complaints.

She expected Tyler to chime in with her, but instead, he shoved her arm away violently.

He said. “Saul is right. How did I never see how vicious you are? Because of you, Monica lost our children and lost her ability to ever have more.

“Wasn’t that enough? You actually wished for her to die?”

After saying this, Tyler found another rope and began his descent down the cliff.

His face was pale, but his expression was resolute.

Watching them go down one after the other, Cassie clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms.

She stared down at the bottom of the cliff, her eyes filled with nothing but bitter resentment and venom.
