Me & Child: Fake Lady’s Stepping Stones Chapter 07 We Were In On It

Trip after trip down yielded nothing.

In the end, it was Tyler who found my phone, wedged in a crevice near the original spot.

He brought it back up. To everyone’s surprise, it still worked.

Tyler and Dad started going through the phone, desperate to find any photos or traces I’d left behind.

Unfortunately for them, I had wiped it clean long before.

By the time they looked, only a few recordings and surveillance clips remained.

Evidence of them conspiring with the doctor to deny me treatment and destroy my fertility.

Proof they took my children for Cassie’s blood sacrifice.

And the interview video of Cassie at the project groundbreaking.

As Dad and Tyler watched the videos and listened to the recordings, tears began streaming down their faces without them even noticing.

So Monica had known everything all along.

Those bloody wounds, all that spilled blood-it all came from the people closest to her.

No wonderMonica had barely spoken to them since the surgery.

They thought I was just drowning in grief over losing the babies.

They never imagined I knew the whole truth and had given up on them completely.

They had broken their promises again and again, choosing Cassie over their own flesh and blood and turning against me.

Dad and Tyler couldn’t even bear to imagine how much I must have suffered.

When Dad remembered the look in my eyes just before I fell, it felt like that arrow to his heart was wildly twisting all over again.

The pain nearly brought him to his knees.

Right then, the resort manager hurried in with a tablet.

His hands shook as he stammered, “Mr. Kent, Mr. Woods, it’s the security footage from that day. You should take a look.

“The surveillance footage shows Ms. Cassie Kent pushing Ms. Monica Kent. Probably because the window ledge was slippery, Ms. Cassie Kent ended up sliding down too.

Should we contact the police? It’s your decision, Mr. Kent, Mr. Woods.”

After saying this, the manager rushed out.

Dad and Tyler hadn’t yet reacted to what the manager said.

The pain from the recordings and videos hadn’t even faded yet, and now there was this new footage.

The manager had said a lot, but Dad only caught a few key words: Cassie pushed Monica out the window

It felt like someone had struck him over the head.

The reason they had saved Cassie first back then was that incidents like this had happened too many times before.

Ever since I was found and brought home, Cassie was constantly getting “pushed” into pools or ‘shoved” down stairs by me.

At first, they made allowances for me. But eventually, they felt they had no choice but to let Cassie move

out.

To compensate her, and because of the bond they’d built over many years, their emotional scale had naturally tilted in Cassie’s favor.

So this time, they decided to punish me by saving Cassie first.

They never imagined that this one decision would cost them me for good.

They had always believed it was all just accidents.

But now they were being told that Cassie was behind everything.

If that was true, what about all those times before?

Dad and Tyler couldn’t bear to keep thinking.

“It was us… We were in on it with Cassie. We got Monica killed,” Tyler choked out, finally breaking down in

tears.

Remembering how he’d pulled his hand back, remembering all the harm he’d done. Tyler wished he could beat himself to death right then.

Hearing Tyler’s words, Dad seemed to age decades for no reason at all.

His face grew weary and worn.

He said, “We’re the real monsters who got Monica killed. We failed her. We should go down there and

atone.”

Tears streamed freely down Dad’s face.
