Married At 9AM, Divorced At 10AM Chapter 06

Megan stomped off in frustration. “Why did you stop me?”

I didn’t answer. I just pulled her away and walked back.

Once we got back to the apartment, Megan threw her bag on the table. “That bastard. You heard all of that, right?”

“Three years. He put on an act for three years.”

“Every day sending you flowers or cash. Snagging that Valentine’s Day appointment when nobody else could. Full-on romantic mode. Even a dog wouldn’t be that devoted.”

“Emma, are you just going to let this slide?”

“You were going to bring him back to Portsville so your parents could teach him the family gold business. And this is what you get?”

I sat down and scrolled through photos of us together.

In one, he wore his delivery uniform and I wore my restaurant uniform.

I had just finished a shift, and he had just finished a delivery run. We shared a bowl of noodles and flashed peace signs at the camera.

I stared at that photo for a long time.

All those hard days, I thought we got through them together.

He said I would never marry someone else.

How could he be so sure?
