Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 17

Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 17

Nora’s POV

I looked into Ethan’s eyes. It took me a few seconds to realize he was completely serious. I shot back sharply.

“Ethan, you’re dying to be my hidden lover? I’d never stoop so low as to take you. What do you have that could ever compare to my mate?”

Even after I said that, he still wouldn’t give up.

“What’s so great about him? I can change. I can be him.”

I fell silent, stunned. The once arrogant, aloof Ethan Shaw who once thought he was above everyone -would never have said something like that.

But it was too late.

I looked at him and said, calmly, ” He is perfect in every way, simply because he is Lucian Vale. You will never be his equal.”

The last light in Ethan’s eyes went dark.

I was out of patience.

“Leave right now. I’ll call staff if you refuse to go.”

But he reached out and pulled me into his arms. He held me with an overwhelming strength.

“Nora…” His voice was shaking. “You weren’t this cold before. You once loved me with all your

heart.”

For a brief instant, I was caught off guard and drifted into reminiscence,

Yes. The old Nora really did love Ethan. Loved him so much the whole school knew. Loved him so much she endured endless grievances and wrongs without a single complaint, thinking that if she just held on a little longer, he would finally turn around and see her.

That naive version of me died five years ago. She died the evening her mother was killed. She died during the appeal that took her father. She died every time he stood on Sophie’s side and looked at her with those cold eyes.

I shoved him hard.

“That was then. I don’t love you anymore.”

Those words finally broke him. His eyes went red. And then-he dropped to his knees right in front

of me.

I stared at him.

He cast aside all sense of dignity, letting his Alpha pride be utterly crushed. He just looked up at me,

his voice raw.

“What must I do to earn your forgiveness?”

I stared down at him on his knees, my heart completely unmoved. The whole scene was ridiculous.

The man I had once tried so hard to reach-now on his knees-and I didn’t even feel sorry for him.

I spoke softly.

“Ethan. Don’t you get it yet? The Lang family isn’t the only one that killed my mother, my father,

and my grandmother.”

I locked eyes with him and bit out each word.

“You helped them. You cleared Sophie of all charges. You emboldened the Lang family to believe they could bully and destroy people like me without restraint. You stood with them, every single time, and pushed me to the brink of ruin.”

Ethan’s face drained of every last trace of color.

I kept going.

“You want me to forgive you? Then bring my family back. Or endure every torment I’ve endured,

one by one.. Every single thing.”

As my final words faded away, all strength drained from Ethan’s body. He stayed frozen on his

knees, his eyes empty.

I didn’t look at him again. I turned, opened the door, and walked out.

I hadn’t noticed when the corridor outside had been fully redecorated. Warm lights. Roses everywhere. A soft floral fragrance lingered in the air. The plain fitting room corridor had become a

proposal aisle.

And at the end of it-Lucian stood in a white suit, tall and straight.

When he saw me, he laughed quietly and walked over. Beneath the stunned gazes of every onlooker, he dropped to one knee and held up a ring.

The diamond caught the light, scattering tiny sparks-like it had been kissed by the moon. Like our

mate bond, finally brought into the sun.

Lucian looked up at me. Those sharp Alpha eyes were impossibly soft.

“Nora. Marry me.”

I stared at him. It dawned on me then. His excuse of being swamped with work had been a lie. He was busy with this. He intended to make up for the missing mate ceremony and the long-overdue proposal I’d always been denied.

Having someone as wonderful as Lucian by my side, I wanted for nothing more.

My heart melted. I opened my mouth to say yes.

“Nora, don’t!”

Ethan burst forward, seized my wrist, and pleaded desperately with me.

“Nora. Don’t say yes. Don’t marry him. Please…”
