Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 12

Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 12

Nora’s POV

Ethan looked at me, a storm of emotions swirling in his gaze. After a long moment, he spoke in a

low voice.

“I never felt anything for Sophie. Not a single time, I promise.”

I watched him quietly and said nothing.

He swallowed hard and continued. “If I had ever loved her, I wouldn’t have handed over the

evidence myself after I found out the truth. And when she died, I wouldn’t have been so calm.’

He lifted his head, a long-overdue tenderness softening his face.

“The person I loved was always you.”

Ethan seemed to have finally torn through all those years of restraint and coldness. For the first

time, he voiced every unspoken thought he’d held back for years.

“In college, you were like a little ray of sunshine. You followed me around every day. You brought

me breakfast. You stayed up late with me in the library. You got so happy over every little thing I

said.

“You probably won’t believe this, but I was actually scared of you back then.”

I blinked. “Scared of me?”

He let out a bitter laugh.

“When I was with you, I always lost control. I’ve always been reserved with my emotions-yet you

could effortlessly ruffle my temper, stir up my worry, and fill me with joy. I hated that feeling.

Losing control. So I was scared of you. But when you weren’t there… I missed you.”

A faint light flickered in his eyes as he remembered the past.

“Nora, you have to believe me. I really did love you. I really did want to go through with the mate

ceremony. Those weeks we spent preparing for it were the happiest of my life.”

His voice trembled on the last sentence.

Yet my heart stayed eerily calm. All those sweet words I’d once craved so badly felt empty now that

I’d finally heard them.

I nodded slightly.

“Okay. I understand. You can leave now.”

Ethan froze. Like he hadn’t processed what I said.

“What?”

I looked up at him, my voice steady.

“I said I understand. You can leave.”

His face went pale, little by little.

“Is there really nothing else you want to say?”

I was quiet for a few seconds. Then I smiled faintly.

“What else do you want me to say? I only asked because our breakup was far too sudden and unresolved, and there were a lot of things I never understood. Now I know. That’s enough.”

Panic finally flickered across Ethan’s face.

“Nora. Have you ever considered giving us another chance?”

I stared at him.

He hadn’t been the one to destroy my family. But for years, he had been Sophie’s shield. The Lang family’s shield. He got Sophie’s charges reduced. He covered for the Langs. Over and over, he stood on the other side from me. He dismissed my suffering as petty tantrums and my pleas for help as pestering.

I was willing to let it go-because in the end, he finally did the right thing and handed over the evidence. But getting back together with him?

In his dreams.

I stood up and laughed, cold and sharp.

“Ethan. Are you joking? I’m married. And I love my mate. I don’t love you.”

But instead of backing down, Ethan slowly composed himself. He looked at me and spoke softly.

“Nora, drop the act.”

I frowned. “What are you talking about?”

“I know,” he said, adjusted his seating posture. He looked like he had just regained some kind of leverage. His tone settled back into cold composure.

“You and Lucian Vale-it was just a contractual marriage. A legal mate registration at the Pack

Hall. Nothing more.”
