IT’S MY PRIVATE TIME, CALL 911- My Husband Blunted My 99 SOS Calls as an On-the-Job Injury Chapter 04

Midway through the banquet, Jared had a large cake brought out. “I have a special announcement.”

He told everyone he was handing over all the company’s core client resources to Cecilia and promoting her to Vice President.

Murmurs spread through the crowd instantly.

“Rachel has worked here for years and never got a promotion?”

“Forget her. She’s the reason we all lost our bonuses last time. She deserves it.”

Jared turned to me, his tone casual. “Hand over your long-term clients to Cecilia. You can focus on administrative work from now on.”

Those clients were my parents’ last legacy. Jared knew that perfectly well.

Cecilia walked over with a glass of champagne, wearing a sweet smile. “Thank you so much, Miss Wright. You’re very meticulous—administrative work will suit you well. Cheers.”

She took a small sip of wine and pretended to remember something. “Oh, right. Some old contracts of yours were locked in a cabinet. I had someone fetch them so we can finish the handover today.”

She clapped her hands. Two staff members carried over a box and dumped its contents onto the deck: folders, notebooks and business cards.

Then she pulled out a photograph—a picture of my mother. She’d looked gaunt and worn out after our family’s downfall, and this was the only photo I had left of her.

Cecilia held up the photo and read the words I’d written on the back: Mom, I miss you so much.

Laughter rippled through the crowd. She let go of the picture. A gust of sea wind swept it over the railing and into the dark water, gone in an instant.

“No!” I lunged forward, but it was too late. I spun to face her, eyes burning. “How dare you…”

Cecilia leaned close, her voice soft enough only for me to hear. “Don’t cry yet, Miss Wright. This isn’t over.”

The crowd started to disperse when she let out a startled cry. “My necklace! My pearl necklace is gone!”

Jared tensed at once. “What necklace? What happened?”

Tears streamed down Cecilia’s face. “It was my grandmother’s pearl necklace. It’s not worth a lot of money, but it means everything to me.”

Jared’s expression turned grim, and he called over the ship’s security team to search the area.

Suddenly, Cecilia pointed straight at me, sobbing loudly. “I saw you go into the lounge. You stole it!”

I clenched my fists. “Cecilia! Why would I steal your necklace?”

“You’re jealous of my promotion!” she wailed.

I looked desperately at Jared. He hesitated for only a second before speaking. “Just give it back to her.”

I froze in place, crushed.

Cecilia stood behind him and shouted, “Search her! The necklace must be hidden on her body!”

Security officers marched toward me. I stepped back. “What do you think you’re doing?”

They pushed me to the deck and pinned me down. Rough hands tore at my clothes as I struggled.

“Jared! Stop them!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.

Jared hesitated briefly, then turned his head away.

I lay humiliated on the deck, left in nothing but my undergarments. Some people gasped, others looked away, and a few secretly pulled out their phones to record the scene.

Eventually, they let me go. I curled up on the floor, shaking all over.

Cecilia pulled the pearl necklace out of her own pocket and looked down at me. “Oh, here it is. My mistake, Miss Wright.”

Jared stood beside her, sounding faintly annoyed. “Try not to be so careless next time.”

The two of them walked away laughing. The crowd scattered.

I dragged myself to the edge of the deck and stared out at the pitch-black sea. Six long years. I was so tired.

Mom, Dad… I’m coming to find you.

I climbed over the railing and jumped into the water. As my eyes closed, I finally felt free.
