IT’S MY PRIVATE TIME, CALL 911- My Husband Blunted My 99 SOS Calls as an On-the-Job Injury Chapter 02

I had never seen such panic on Jared’s face.

A doctor stepped forward to take a quick look. “It’s just a few scrapes. A simple dressing will suffice.”

Jared snapped, “How can you be sure without running scans? Are you willing to take responsibility if she’s seriously hurt?”

Startled by his outburst, the doctor ordered a full set of examinations for Cecilia.

I stared at the needle mark on the back of my hand, pulled my sleeve down to cover it, and left the hospital.

When I got home, I stood in the living room, staring at the villa Jared and I had moved into as our marital home.

The excitement I’d once felt about this place now only struck me as ridiculous.

Every detail of the interior was designed to his taste—a stark minimalist style in shades of gray and white, completely devoid of warmth.

On our first day here, I’d put fresh flowers in a vase, only for him to throw them in the trash the next morning, claiming he was allergic to pollen.

I’d lived in this house for six years, yet I always felt like a stranger.

Jared and I slept in separate bedrooms. He would only come to my room during my ovulation period to fulfill his marital duties, then leave immediately afterward, never staying the night.

Every time I heard his bedroom door close, I wondered if he’d ever truly seen me as his wife.

I pushed the thoughts aside and sat down on the sofa, taking a bottle of anti-inflammatory medicine from my bag.

The front door unlocked. Jared stepped inside, supporting Cecilia.

He spotted the medicine in my hand and frowned. “Are you sick?”

Before I could answer, Cecilia wrinkled her nose and stepped back. “What’s that awful smell?”

Jared glanced at the medicine bottle, his tone sharp with irritation. “If it’s nothing serious, don’t leave your meds stinking up the house.”

I froze for a moment, then put the bottle away. “Alright.”

Cecilia relaxed and smiled at me. “Miss Wright, my lease is up. Boss Jared said I could stay here for a few days.”

I turned to Jared. He looked completely unfazed.

“Cecilia hurt her foot, and some troublemakers harassed her lately. She has nowhere safe to go, so I thought she could stay here temporarily.”

I fell silent. He’d already made up his mind; there was no point in asking for my opinion.

Late that night, I was jolted awake by noises downstairs. Every light on the lower floor was switched on, glaring bright. I walked to the staircase and looked down.

Cecilia threw herself into Jared’s arms. “I’m so scared of thunder.”

Jared poured her a glass of warm water and patted her back gently. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

She wore a pink nightgown. The style looked oddly familiar.

After a moment, I remembered—Jared’s late younger sister had owned an almost identical one, though Cecilia’s was far more revealing. She leaned forward slightly, letting her neckline slip open.

I watched her trembling act and Jared’s comforting hand, and a hollow laugh bubbled up inside me. I turned and headed back to my room.

It didn’t matter anymore. I’d be leaving soon enough.

The next morning, Jared and Cecilia left for the office together. I took my medication and rode a bicycle to work on my own.

Chaos filled the workplace as I walked in. I’d barely sat down at my desk when Jared stormed over to me.

“What happened with the Vizon Project? Your mistake cost the company five million dollars!”

I blinked in shock. “That project was handed over to Cecilia a long time ago…”

Cecilia cut me off at once. “Miss Wright, how can you shift the blame after making such a big error?”

She stood behind Jared, eyes glistening as if she’d been crying.

Jared announced to everyone present that my entire year’s salary would be docked, and year-end bonuses for my whole team would be canceled as well. Hostile and resentful stares landed on me from all directions.

That evening when I got home, Jared and Cecilia were already sitting at the dinner table, chatting and laughing happily. I had no appetite and headed straight upstairs.

Jared’s voice stopped me. “Don’t take what happened today to heart.”

I paused and looked back at him.

“Cecilia’s new. If she takes the fall for this, it’ll ruin her reputation. She can’t afford that right now.”

I could barely believe my ears. “So I’m supposed to take all the criticism instead?”

Jared furrowed his brows, his tone matter-of-fact. “You’re a senior employee. You’ve dealt with this kind of thing plenty of times before. Don’t be so petty.”

I clenched my fists, my fingernails digging into my palms.

A loud crash rang out from the table. Cecilia clutched her throat, her eyes rolling back, and foam foam bubbling at her lips. She slumped off her chair and hit the floor hard.
