Indeed Is My Weapon, Silence Is My Shield Chapter 09

Derek ran off to smooth things over with Tyler, so he didn’t have time to cause more trouble

Isabel and I stood together as we prepared to go up on stage.

The lights blazed. Margaret stepped up to the microphone and announced, “Tonight, we’re here to celebrate my daughters’ birthday.”

Daughters. Plural.

The word landed like a bomb. Everyone in the room knew exactly what that meant, Derek had been deliberately excluded.

Combined with the rumors flying around about the Shaw family’s “fake daughter” scandal, it was crystal clear now who the real fake was.

Robert noticed that Margaret’s speech had completely deviated from what they’d rehearsed. He tugged her sleeve.

Margaret ignored him and continued, announcing that she was transferring all her shares to me, and that I would be the sole heir to Shaw Industries.

The crowd buzzed with whispers. Countless eyes turned my way. Two of them burned with

hatred.

I didn’t need to guess who.

Robert and Derek managed to keep their masks on through the rest of the gala. But the second the last guest left, Robert’s fake smile dropped.

He’d been sweet-talking Margaret for years, always stern in public, but never raising his voice at

her at home.

Now he was snarling through gritted teeth, “Margaret! What the hell do you think you’re doing?! We agreed Derek was going to be the heir!”

Derek put on his best wounded act, clutching his chest and crying, “Mom… how could you do this to me? Just because I’m not your biological son?”

Robert rushed to pat his back, playing the supportive father. “Margaret, we raised Derek for over twenty years. He’s as much our son as any blood child.”

“How can you treat him like this? Do you have any idea how much this hurts him?”

Margaret looked at them both with cold, steady eyes. “How much longer were you going to keep up

this act?”

Robert and Derek froze. “What are you talking about?”

Her voice trembled, but not with weakness. With rage. “I said-how long were you planning to lie to

me?”

“Derek isn’t my son, and you’ve known it all along. You swapped him in. With your own hands

Robert tried to play dumb. “Margaret, who told you that?! Derek was just swapped by accident

He shot me a venomous glare. “It was Elena, wasn’t it?! She grew up in foster care, lying is as easy as breathing for someone like her-”

“Enough!”

Margaret slammed a stack of documents onto the table. Robert’s hands shook as he opened them, photos of him and Linda, his high-school sweetheart. Derek’s DNA report. And a divorce petition.

“Robert,” she said flatly, using his original name, “we’re done. Let’s end this cleanly.”

Robert’s composure shattered. He tore the divorce papers into pieces.

“Margaret, you’ve been tricked! These are all fake! I’m not signing anything! We’re not getting divorced! Don’t ever bring this up again!”.

I just stood there, watching him try to gaslight her again.

Margaret didn’t argue. She just signaled security and had both of them physically removed from the

premises.

“If you won’t agree to a divorce,” she said as they were dragged out, “then I’ll see you in court.”
