Indeed Is My Weapon, Silence Is My Shield Chapter 08

Indeed Is My Weapon, Silence Is My Shield Chapter 08

The day of the gala, Margaret sent over a stunning gown Isabel showed up with a beatifu set, and looked awkward as she handed it to me

“I’m sorry, Elena. This is my gift to you.”

I patted her head. “You’re forgiven, kid.”

She was just a naive kid who’d been used as a pawn.

We walked into the ballroom together. Isabel took my hand and introduced me to her circle of

friends. Derek headed off to his own crew.

Before long, a guy blocked my path.

I looked him up and down. Fancy suit, aggressively average face.

He fixed me with a warning glare. “So you’re the real daughter. Doesn’t matter. Don’t think for a second you can take what’s Isabel’s.”

His eyes raked over me, and he let out a snort. “You’re just some backwater nobody. Flat chest, flat ass, nothing like Isabel. She’s actually sweet and pretty.”

Ah. Isabel’s admirer.

He was about to keep going, another round of clueless self-confidence, so I cut him off. “Yeah, I’m

not as pretty as Isabel. But neither of us is anywhere near your league, pal.”

“Look in a mirror before you come running your mouth. No woman with self-respect would touch

that face.”

A few sentences, and the guy was already red in the face.

He raised his hand to hit me.

Before his hand could make contact, Isabel threw herself at him, knocking him off balance. “Tyler! What do you think you’re doing to my sister?!”

Derek rushed over. “Isabel! That’s no way to talk to Tyler. Apologize. Now.”

Isabel shot him a look, pure sarcasm, the first time I’d seen her talk back. “Apologize? He was about to hit Elena, and you didn’t see that?”

Derek put on his “reasonable brother” face. “Tyler was just worried about you. He cares-”

Tyler puffed up, emboldened. “Exactly! You’re not a real Shaw. I was protecting you, and somehow

that makes me the bad guy? Isabel, you’re heartless!”

Isabel blinked, confused. “Wait-who told you I’m not a Shaw?”

Derek looked away.

I stepped in. “Hold on. I’ve got something for you.”

I went upstairs, grabbed a copy of the DNA report, and handed it to Tyler. “Here. Open your eyes and read. Isabel and I are both Shaws. As for Derek-”

Before I could finish, Derek grabbed the paper and ripped it to shreds.

That one move told everyone everything they needed to know.

Tyler didn’t even look at Derek, just walked off without a word.

Isabel’s eyes sparkled. “Elena, you’re amazing!”

I snorted. That was amazing?

She pouted. “I actually hate Tyler. His eyes are so gross.”

“Derek kept telling me I wasn’t really a Shaw and that Mom and Dad would stop loving me, so I should try to get on Tyler’s good side.”

“But he’s disgusting, last time he grabbed a waitress’s butt.”

I tapped her forehead. “Sweetheart, your brother was selling you off for connections.”

Men raised as heirs tend to see their sisters as bargaining chips. Happens all the time in these

circles.

But after tonight? Everyone would know exactly who the real heir to the Shaw fortune was.
