I Walked Away From His Regret Chapter 10

My colleagues were chatting in our group chat By the time I scrolled through, the messages had already piled up to over a hundred.

[Mr Lawrence cleared out his all posts. Nothing left, totally wiped clean. You can’t find any of Quee

posts anymore]

[Word going around at Lawrence Group is that Queenie can’t even get in the building now Security just blocks her They kicked her out several times already.]

A string of meme emojis popped up below that message.

[Men are really heartless. When they like you, they’ll shield you even if the sky falls. When they stop liking you, they’re the first ones to stab and bring the sky crashing down on you.]

A few messages later, another person replied. [Come off it. This isn’t heartlessness. Queenie threw herself at

him to be the other woman. She brought this on herself.]

I locked my phone. The screen went dark, and I didn’t scroll any further.

It was almost early spring, and the temperature kept fluctuating.

Right before clocking out, a sudden strong wind picked up. It was as cold as the middle of winter. A

colleague even joked that it might snow by midnight.

I pulled my coat tighter and headed downstairs. When I reached the intersection, someone suddenly stepped

up behind me. “Sheryl.”

Edward draped his trench coat over my shoulders.

“I was just passing by.”

His company was in the completely opposite direction from mine.

I stopped him when he tried to button the coat for me. His voice was tight. “I just came to bring you a coat.

You always catch a cold when spring comes.”

“No need.” I cut him off coldly, pulled the coat off and handed it back to him. “I can take care of myself. You

don’t need to go out of your way for this.

“If you have extra time, you’d better just sign the divorce papers already.”

He clenched the coat in his hands, paused for a moment, then said, “Sheryl, what happened with Queenie and

me…”

“That’s your business.” I cut him off quickly, turned around and ran into the subway station.

The next day after work, it was already completely dark by the time I got home. I didn’t notice anyone standing by my door until I got close.

Edward was leaning against the wall, holding an insulated bag in his hand.

He stood up straight when he saw me.

“I brought you late-night snacks.”

“I saw your post said you were working overtime. I asked the nanny to make soup, so I brought it over.”

I stood a few feet away and didn’t move.

Back when I worked overtime late before, I always used to ask the nanny to make hot soup.

My whole body would relax after a bowl.

But I shook my head. “I don’t need it. If I want soup, I can hire another nanny.”

His fingers tightened a little more around the handle of the insulated bag.

“Aren’t you busy?” I asked. “I heard your company’s developing a new project recently. The entire tech floor is

basically lit up all night.”

Edward had a tech background. Back in the day, every time the company launched a new project, he would

pull all-nighters with the rest of the team to follow through on it.

He paused for a moment, then said quietly, “I am busy. But I missed you.”

He stepped closer.

Only then did I see the exhaustion under his eyes; he’d clearly been pulling all-nighters for days.

I sighed.

“My lawyer said you still refuse to sign the divorce papers. Are you unhappy with the property division?”

His face darkened. “I don’t want a divorce.

“I’ve changed. I cut things off completely with Queenie, I’ll never contact her again.”

He stepped forward, his gaze fixed on my face.

“Sheryl, I’m sorry. Later… we can have another child.”

I took a deep breath.

“We will never have another child.”

His breath caught.

“Even if there hadn’t been that accident on New Year’s Eve, I wouldn’t have kept that baby anyway.”

His face turned dark in an instant. “Why?”

“Because I’d already decided to divorce you a long time ago.”

I said, cold and detached, “The baby was just a trigger. Even without that baby, something else would have

pushed this.

“Damage doesn’t just heal because you changed. What’s done is done, it can’t be fixed with just an apology.”

He stared at me, the blood vessels in his eyes looked even redder.

“My lawyer has already filed for divorce.” I said finally, “Even if you don’t agree, I will see this through to the

end.”

“Why, Sheryl? Won’t you give me even one more chance?”

I didn’t answer. I walked around him and pushed the door open.

It was a long time before I heard his footsteps leave outside the door.
