The men checked their accounts, confirmed the wire transfer 

had come through, and left quickly. 

So Ivy had hired them. 

At Blackwood Medical Center, Ivy had just put away her phone when Adrian walked in and handed her an apple he had just 

rinsed. 

“How are you feeling?” 

Ivy smiled sweetly. “Much better, thanks to you taking care of 

me.” 

“Don’t mention it.” He pinched her cheek and stood. “Rest up. I’ll come back to see you later.” 

Before he could take a step, she suddenly pressed a hand to her forehead, her voice weak. “Oh. My head feels so dizzy all of a 

sudden.” 

His footsteps stopped. 

He hurried over and helped her lie down. “Why are you dizzy all of a sudden? Does anything else hurt?” 

He called for the doctor. 

As he watched the doctor examine her, his mind wandered. 

How was I doing now? 

Back then, he could tell I could barely even stand, but he had 

still carried Ivy out first. 

He had meant to go back for me. 

But Ivy had been terrified and could not bear to be left alone. 

So he had ordered his men to get me out no matter what and send me straight to Blackwood Medical Center for a checkup. 

He was wondering which ward I was in now. 

While the doctor was examining Ivy, he went to the hospital director’s office. 

But he was told there was no Evelyn Hart in the admission 

records. 

His heart sank, though he couldn’t say why. 

He called his men once, then twice, but no one answered, and unease spread through him fast. 

He jabbed the elevator button and went down to the underground parking garage. 

When he stepped out of the elevator, he nearly tripped. 

He drove back to the hotel at reckless speed. 

The private lounge was empty. 

Everything had burned. 

Only a few members of the cleaning crew were clearing the 

scene. 

He grabbed one of them in a panic. “Excuse me. Did you see a girl? She was wearing… a bunny–girl costume.” 

The person shook their head blankly. 

Adrian stood there, his body trembling faintly. 

Then his phone rang. 

One of his men was calling him back. 

The other end was noisy, music blasting in the background. “Mr. Blackwood, you were looking for me?” 

“Where is Evelyn?” Adrian’s voice was edged with cold. 

The man froze.“‘Miss Hart? Didn’t you say we didn’t need to care about her anymore?” 

“You even booked me a private lounge and said it was for 

making me run over there for nothing, so I should go have 

fun.” 

“When did I say that?” Adrian’s roar cut him off. “Who gave you the nerve to make up something like that?” 

The man panicked. “I wouldn’t dare, Mr. Blackwood. I really 

was following orders.” 

“Whose orders?” 

“Didn’t you have Miss Monroe pass the message along?” The 

man’s voice shook badly. 

Ivy? 

How could she do something like that? 

Back at the hospital, Adrian stormed into Ivy’s room. 

She was leaning against the headboard. 

When she saw him come in, her eyes lit up, and she reached for 

the hem of his shirt. 

“Adrian, where did you go? I’m so bored here by myself. Will you take me out for a walk?” 

He brushed her hand away, opened his phone, and played the 

recording of his call with the bodyguard. 

“Do you have anything to explain?” 

The expression slid off her face. 

She did not even look surprised. 

“It was you.” Adrian’s voice sank, darkness churning in his eyes. “Ivy, when did you become this cruel?” 

“Cruel?” Her eyes reddened. “I was just afraid of losing you. Is that wrong?” 

“As long as she’s alive, you two will get married. Then she’ll be the only one in your mind. You won’t be the brother who spoils only me anymore.”
