I Used To Heal From Everything He Let Her Do To Me, Until I Couldn’t Chapter 01

I was born with a healing factor unlike anyone else’s.

No matter how badly I was hurt, every wound healed on its own.

On the day my fiancé Adrian Blackwood’s adopted sister turned eighteen, he hired a New Orleans occultist to place a ten-year blood-proxy curse on me.

From that day on, every ache, every injury, every bit of pain Ivy Monroe suffered would transfer to me.

”This is my eighteenth-birthday gift to her,” he said calmly. ”She loves thrills, but she’s afraid of pain. For the next ten years, you’ll bear it for her.”

He brushed his fingers gently over my face, his voice almost tender. ”You heal anyway. Ten years from now, I’ll give you the status you want.”

So when she drove too fast and went off a cliff, both my legs twisted grotesquely beneath me.

When she provoked a gang and got stabbed eighteen times, my stomach was ripped open, my intestines spilling across the floor.

When her bungee cord snapped, my ribs pierced my lungs, and I could not stop coughing up blood.

Year after year, my flesh rotted and healed, my scars closed and split open again.

Until that day, when he brought me to a private ice-diving facility near the Arctic Circle.

His voice was helpless, fond, and indulgent. ”My spoiled girl wants to dive under the ice and see what’s down there.”

Not far away, Ivy stood in a skimpy swimsuit, practically bouncing with excitement.

I trembled all over. ”I can’t take this.”

Adrian stroked my hair. ”Be sweet. The curse is about to expire. This is the last time.”

”You’ve suffered for ten years. Once we get back, I’ll keep my promise and marry you.”

He did not know that this time, my wounds would not heal.

And I had already saved enough credits to finally leave this world.

In the distance, the instructor hesitated for a long time before finally stepping forward.

”Miss Monroe, ice diving without equipment is basically suicide.”

”What’s there to be scared of? I have my own human crash dummy,” Ivy cut him off carelessly.

She glanced at me with open contempt. ”As for somebody’s worthless life, that’s not your responsibility.”

She tossed aside the air tank, winked playfully at Adrian, then turned and jumped straight into the hole in the ice.

Adrian gave a low laugh and shook his head, his tone full of indulgence. ”That little maniac.”

They acted as if this were nothing more than an ordinary swim.

Only my body temperature plunged as my limbs went numb almost instantly.

My teeth chattered so violently I could barely stand. ”It’s so cold. Adrian, tell her to come up.”

”Hold on,” he said, his eyes following the shadow beneath the water, soft with affection. ”It’s her birthday. Don’t ruin it.”

”I can’t hold on.” I collapsed onto the ground, my body convulsing beyond my control.

Only then did he finally glance at me, his brows drawing together. ”Evelyn, you never used to be this dramatic.”

I squeezed my eyes shut as his voice began to sound far away.

As Ivy dove deeper, the suffocation closed around my throat.

My lungs hurt as if they were about to burst.

I screamed inside my head: [System, can I leave this world now?]

The System sounded guilty: [We ran into an update.]

[Then at least restore my healing factor.]

Its voice grew even smaller: [All functions are suspended during the update. Five days at the earliest. Maybe you should beg Adrian?]

I dragged in a breath and forced the words out. ”Adrian, I really am in pain.”

With the last of my strength, I grabbed his pant leg. ”Please. This time is different. If she doesn’t come up, I’m going to die.”

He looked down at me, his gaze wavering for a second.

Then he looked away. ”It is different this time. You’re only getting hurt, but Ivy won’t get another chance to let loose like this.”

”How about this? When we get back, I’ll buy you that private island you liked. Consider it a wedding gift.”

Every time I was hurt because of Ivy, he gave me a gift.
