I Used To Heal From Everything He Let Her Do To Me, Until I Couldn’t Chapter 05

Then Ivy suddenly lowered her voice, a cruel smile in it. ”You still don’t know the truth about your miscarriage? It happened because I drank paraquat.”

My eyes snapped open.

”You were rolling around in pain and bleeding so much. I was so happy watching it.” Her shoulders trembled with laughter. ”Adrian knew too. But he didn’t blame me.”

All the blood in my body seemed to freeze.

No wonder his eyes had been red back then, yet he still ordered everyone to stop investigating.

”That child wasn’t meant for us. There’s no point dwelling on it.”

”We’ll have another child. I promise.”

So the fresh flowers every day, the sudden trips, and the gifts for no reason had all been meant to distract me.

But that child was something I had wanted to leave him with.

A piece of me, in case he missed me after I was gone.

I clenched my teeth so hard it hurt. ”The child was innocent. It was only a fetus.”

Ivy gave a scornful laugh. ”Then blame that little bastard for choosing the wrong womb.”

Rage surged up through me.

I pushed myself up and slapped her across the face with all the strength I had left.

She did not hit back.

Instead, she ripped the sheet from the bed and set it on fire.

Then she grabbed the gasoline hidden behind the cabinet and splashed it across the floor.

Flames shot up, and she screamed.

The sharp fire alarm blared as panicked footsteps rushed toward the door.

She smiled at me. ”Who do you think he’ll save first this time?”

Looking at her bright, delighted smile, I sank my teeth into her neck.

The taste of iron spread through my mouth.

”What the hell are you doing?” Adrian’s furious shout exploded from the doorway.

”Adrian, she hit me, bit me, and tried to burn me alive. Save me!” Ivy burst into sobs and collapsed toward him, trembling.

Almost instantly, I was kicked hard in the chest and sent flying.

Adrian lifted Ivy into his arms and glared at me where I lay on the floor. ”You want to die?”

I opened my mouth, but no words came out.

There was no point defending myself.

Because the System’s voice had already sounded: [System update complete. Host will exit this world immediately.]

[Host has exceeded mission requirements. New function triggered: Truth Unsealed.]

[Target: Adrian Blackwood. Every buried truth will come to light.]

He met my cold, indifferent eyes, and his body stiffened. ”We’ll deal with this later. Stay here and don’t move. I’ll come back for you right away.”

He carried her and turned away in a rush.

My consciousness slowly pulled free.

Watching his back sway in the firelight, I suddenly smiled.

Adrian, there is no later for us.

[System, why am I still here?]

My consciousness floated in midair, and I felt almost helpless.

The System stammered: [The update package was too large. The exit portal is still loading.]

I pressed a hand to my forehead: [How long this time?]

[Uncertain. We’re working hard to load it.]

[…]

A few seconds later, it added: [As compensation, We’ve secured ten million dollars in compensation for you. It will be deposited once you return to the real world.]

I went quiet.

Then I turned to look at my charred body.

After a while, I looked away.

My body looked grotesque, stiff and curled like a piece of dead wood.

Suddenly, several men in black suits rushed in.

They moved quickly, shoved my body into a bag, and carried it away.

”What are you doing?” I shouted.

Then I realized they could not hear me.

I followed them as they dumped my body at an abandoned dumping ground.

Then one of them made a call.

”Miss Monroe, it’s done.”

Whoever was on the other end said something, and the call ended.
