I Used To Heal From Everything He Let Her Do To Me, Until I Couldn’t Chapter 04

I turned my head blankly and caught my reflection in the glass, dressed in a revealing bunny-girl costume.

I was dressed in fuzzy bunny ears, a nearly sheer skirt slit all the way up to my waist, and a fluffy white cotton-ball tail pinned to the back.

My bare back was a bloody mess.

Ivy gave a little gasp and stuck out her tongue. ”Oh no. I grabbed the wrong outfit. Adrian won’t be mad at me, right?”

He froze for a moment.

Then he patted the back of her hand. ”You were busy and grabbed the wrong thing. It happens. That’s normal. How could I be mad at you?”

”But will the guests think I played some kind of prank?” she mumbled.

”They won’t.” His tone was firm.

Then he grabbed my wrist and dragged me onto the stage.

I had no strength left, and I stumbled as he dragged me forward.

His steady voice carried through the microphone and filled the room.

”Thank you all for coming to my engagement party. This is my fiancée. She’s always had bold tastes and never cared much for convention.”

”I’ve always respected her preferences. You’re all sophisticated people. I’m sure you won’t mind.”

The crowd began whispering.

”Rich people really do play different. He’s actually marrying a cheap escort like that?”

”What do you know? That kind is exactly what keeps men hooked. Look at that waist. Those hips. Damn.”

”You’re taking this too seriously. A woman like that is just something you bring home to display. Outside, men like him still play however they want.”

Someone called out loudly, ”Mr. Blackwood, what happened to her back?”

Adrian paused.

Then he took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders. ”Just a little role-play. Sorry for the spectacle.”

The press area exploded.

Every reporter looked as excited as if they had already seen tomorrow’s headlines.

Cameras clicked nonstop.

Flashbulbs went off in blinding waves, stabbing at my eyes until I could barely keep them open.

I stood frozen on the stage.

It felt as if I had been stripped naked, exposed beneath countless staring eyes.

In the middle of the noise and speculation, a cold mechanical voice suddenly rang in my mind: [System update progress: 99%. Countdown to world exit begins.]

After the reporters finally left, Adrian dragged me into a private lounge, his face dark.

The first thing out of his mouth was an accusation. ”When are those wounds going to heal? Are you addicted to putting on an act now?”

”Are you doing this on purpose so it looks like we owe you something?”

My voice came out hoarse. ”There’s no owing anymore, Adrian. We’re even. From now on, goodbye for good.”

Adrian frowned slightly and grabbed my wrist. ”What do you mean, even? What do you mean, ”goodbye”? Don’t say nonsense like that again.”

”Once we’re engaged and the wedding is done, you’ll be legally and publicly Mrs. Blackwood.”

He paused.

My protruding wrist bone pressed against his palm, and his tone softened a little.

”I won’t mistreat you. You’ll have wealth and privilege other people could spend a lifetime chasing.”

I looked at him calmly enough to unsettle him. ”No.”

”Enough. Stop saying things just to upset me.”

Before I could finish, he stood abruptly, a flash of panic crossing his eyes.

”I’m going to entertain the guests. Treat your wounds and don’t embarrass me again.”

He tossed down gauze and medicine, then slammed the door behind him.

I did not move.

I was leaving anyway.

What difference did medicine make?

I simply lay down on the bed and waited for the moment I could leave.

Of course, someone refused to let me have peace.

Ivy pushed the door open, her voice vicious. ”What are you playing dead for now? I’m telling you, no matter what you do, Adrian will always choose me.”

”So what if you marry him? Even when I do something wrong, he’ll protect me just like he did out there and grind you under his heel.”

I could not even be bothered to open my eyes.
