I Smashed Their Royal Dream Chapter 04

“Catherine likes Boiled Lamb.”

“She likes lamb soup too.”

“She just gave birth, so keep the food light.”

Damon and I had been together for years, yet he could never remember what I was allergic to.

But he knew Catherine’s preferences by heart.

When I still didn’t move, the impatience in his voice sharpened.

“Go!”

“What are you still standing around for?”

“Catherine can’t stay here much longer.”

“We need her to recover as soon as possible so we can send her back.”

That finally got a reaction out of me.

I looked up at him.

“So once she’s recovered, you’re sending her back right away?”

Damon seemed confused by the question, but he nodded anyway.

Once I had my answer, I immediately headed for the door, one hand pressed against my still-aching lower back.

The floating comments practically exploded with excitement.

[Hurry up and send them back! Then the female lead can smash the mirror!]

[Exactly! If that scumbag and his son love it over there so much, let them stay there forever!]

[Whoa! Car! Watch out!]

The floating comments kept warning me, but my head was still spinning, making my reactions painfully slow.

By the time I realized what was happening, a car had already knocked me down.

A searing pain shot through the scraped area on my lower leg.

An hour after they treated the scrape in the ER, I still couldn’t get to my feet.

My phone suddenly started ringing in my pocket.

Damon’s name flashed across the screen.

The moment I answered, his accusing voice came through the phone.

“Catherine’s hungry.”

“Why aren’t you back yet?”

I looked down at the bloodstained bandage around my leg.

“I got hit by a car.”

“I hurt my leg.”

“Is it broken?”

His voice was completely flat.

I froze.

“What?”

“If it’s not broken, then hurry home and cook.”

“Don’t keep Catherine waiting.”

I slapped the phone facedown against my thigh.

I was afraid that one more second of his voice would make the disgust overwhelm me.

I pinched my fingertips hard and forced myself to my feet through the pain.

Then I headed out of the hospital.

When I got back to the hospital, I carried the insulated food container into the room.

The laughter inside stopped instantly.

Owen was holding several photographs.

The second I saw what was in them, all the color drained from my face.

When Owen was six, he’d gotten into a fight with another child.

The other child’s parents were rich and powerful.

They refused to let it go unless Owen paid the same price.

I’d gotten down on my knees and begged them.

People crowded around me, taking photo after photo.

After those pictures spread, I moved Owen to another school.

But those images still jolted me awake in the middle of the night.

They were my nightmare.

Damon knew that.

But he only glanced at me.

“Catherine’s in a bad mood.”

“We’re trying to cheer her up.”

Every emotion inside me churned and tore at me.

Then, finally, everything went still.

I nodded and set down the insulated food container.

After that, I did exactly what they told me to do.

I fed Princess Catherine and wiped her down.

For an entire week, I took care of her down to the smallest detail.

Finally, Damon completed her discharge paperwork.

As soon as we got home, the three of them headed straight for the antique bronze mirror.

Before stepping through, Damon looked back at me.

“We’re taking Catherine back.”

“We’ll be back soon.”

I gave him a faint smile.

“Okay.”

A blinding white light flashed.

The three of them disappeared.

I slowly walked over and picked up the sledgehammer that had been left behind.

[Finally! The day is here!]

[They have no idea what kind of temper the Princess has. Smash that antique bronze mirror and leave them there forever. Let them find out for themselves!]

Without the slightest hesitation, I swung the sledgehammer down at the antique bronze mirror.
