I Saw The Comments And Chose My Dad Over The Doctor I Loved Chapter 01

I had developed a crush on the intern my dad was mentoring.

To spend every possible second with him, I rushed straight to the hospital I hated the most the moment I got off work every day.

I brought him meals, asked if he was tired, and helped him organize patient charts.

After work, I dragged him out for late-night snacks and shared my life with him, laughing all the while.

He always responded gently, making me believe the feeling was mutual.

Just as I was about to confess my feelings to him, countless comments suddenly flashed before my eyes.

[Here we go again. This extra keeps sexually harassing the ML just because her dad is his mentor. So disgusting.]

[She spends every day fighting with the other female rival over the ML, but both of them are just

disposable extras. The ML actually likes the FL, not these annoying brats.]

[If it weren’t for her dad’s sake, the ML would have snapped at this extra long ago.]

[Don’t get too worked up, folks. Soon her dad will have a stroke. Even though he survives, he’ll be paralyzed for life. The ML won’t ever have to play nice with her again.]

My hand, which had been holding out a bouquet to give to Waylon Marsh, paused midair. Then I turned around and stuffed the flowers into my dad’s arms instead.

The noise I made pushing the door open wasn’t quiet. Everyone in the office turned their eyes toward me at once.

Clutching the vibrant irises to my chest, I froze on the spot.

The words from the comments burned into my heart like a hot iron, making my eyes sting.

Blinking back tears, I couldn’t help but look at Waylon. The first thing I caught was his expressionless, furrowed brow and the flash of impatience deep in his eyes.

For a moment, I found it hard to even breathe.

I suddenly realized that every bit of gentleness and special treatment I had believed Waylon showed me was never real. If my dad hadn’t been his mentor, he wouldn’t have wanted anything to do with me at all.

Standing right next to Waylon to ask him a question, the nurse Blakely Chase rolled her eyes and spoke up without any hesitation. “What do you want now, princess?”

Hearing that, I finally shifted my gaze to Blakely. This girl, whom I used to consider a romantic rival, was ultimately just another passing figure in Waylon’s life, just like me.

The only difference was that she ranked a bit higher as a supporting character, while I was merely a disposable extra who didn’t even have a name.

In the past, seeing her stand so close to Waylon would have made me rush over to pull her away, then force Waylon to wipe down any skin Blakely had touched with a wet wipe.

But now, a bitter sense of shared destiny welled up inside me. For the first time, I didn’t snap back at her.

“Alessia, what are you daydreaming about?”

A tap on my shoulder snapped me out of it. I turned to look beside me and found my dad, his eyes full of encouragement.

He was my dad. How could he not see through my thoughts? Besides, Waylon was his star student by his standards.

“Waylon is a good kid. If you ended up with him, I’d be at ease.”

That was why he always tried his best to create opportunities for me to run into Waylon, and why he kept talking highly of me in front of him. Just yesterday, I had dropped hints to my dad that I wanted to confess my feelings to Waylon today.

I had stammered shyly at the time. “Dad, do you think… Waylon would say yes?”

He had nodded with absolute certainty. “Of course he will. Every time you dropped by, Waylon couldn’t stop grinning.”

It was only because of my dad’s encouragement that I found the courage to confess to Waylon today. But at the final moment, I saw those comments, mocking my shamelessness and revealing Waylon’s irritation.

Wanting to help me, my dad leaned in and whispered in my ear. “Are you feeling shy? I’ll call him over for you… Hey, Waylon, come over here for a second.”

Watching my dad care for and support me only made my mind map out the lifeless image of him lying on a hospital bed. In a split second, my tears could no longer be held back, splashing onto the floor.

Waylon walked over to me slowly, his eyes falling on the irises in my hand. It was his favorite flower, something I had found out a long time ago through subtle, roundabout questions.

Seeing Waylon stand in front of me, everyone guessed what I was about to do. Blakely’s eyes widened in shock.

Before I could even say a word, she screamed out loud, “I don’t allow it!”

Waylon blinked, his lips moving as if he were about to speak, but I slammed the flowers into my dad’s arms. I glared at Waylon, though my words were directed at Blakely.

“Tomorrow is Father’s Day. I’m giving flowers to my dad. What do you mean you don’t allow it?”

[Did the extra suddenly get a clue? Finally figured out her place?]

[It’s good that she woke up. Otherwise, the ML and FL would have had a misunderstanding because of her actions, making the FL cry so hard she couldn’t sleep, only to get chewed out by the head nurse the next day.]

[Seriously, this extra is the most annoying. Even though she gets rejected, she makes Blakely think she has a chance.]

[After the extra and her dad disappear, things got even rougher for them. It’s better if she gives up now so the path for the ML and FL is smoother.]

Even though I had already guessed the ending, seeing the comments state so bluntly that Waylon would reject me still sent a sharp sting through my heart.

I looked up at Waylon in a panic. I didn’t know if it was just my imagination, but a flash of disappointment seemed to cross Waylon’s face for a split second.

But I was in no mood to look deeper into it now. I grabbed my bewildered dad and dragged him outside, crying. “Dad, come with me. We’re getting you a medical checkup right now.”
