The Blood Mirror Never Lies Chapter 09

The Blood Mirror Never Lies Chapter 09

The catacomb was dead quiet.

Only Valerius’s heavy breathing echoed against the stone walls.

Without the immortal healing, his body was now enduring the same crippling weakness and pain I had

suffered every day for three years.

But the physical torment was nothing compared to his mental agony.

The three men crawled to me on their knees, the sound of flesh scraping against the bloody stone deafening in the silence.

Valerius’s trembling hands retrieved something from the floor.

The Blood Bond ring.

Three years ago, when he chose Tania over me, I had taken it off and thrown it on the ground.

Now it lay in the dirty blood, dull and lifeless.

“Evelyn…” He held the ring, sobbing like a lost child. “I’m sorry… I’m so sorry… I was blinded… I forgot

everything you did for me…”

“Please, give me one more chance. I’ll spend eternity making it up to you! I’ll love you with my life, I’ll

never let anyone hurt you again!”

He tried to slide the ring back onto my finger, but I gently pulled my hand away.

Julian crawled closer, his Enforcer uniform soaked in filth and blood.

“Kill me, Evelyn,” he sobbed, pressing his Judgment Sword to his own chest. “End me. I don’t deserve to be your brother. I don’t deserve to live.”

The tip of the blade pierced his shirt, drawing blood.

Cassian had completely shattered.

He kept bowing, smashing his forehead against the stone until he was bleeding.

“Evelyn… my savior… please don’t abandon me… I’ll spend my life repenting… I’ll do anything…”

The cries of three men tangled together, forming a haunting echo in the massive tomb.

I looked down at them. The men I had once treated as my world, the men who had bruised me beyond

repair.

My heart ached slightly.

Not because of their tears.

But in mourning for the old me who had loved them so deeply.

“Make it up to me?” I repeated, my voice hollow.

“Where were you when I took the lethal holy light for Julian in the botanical gardens?”

“Where were you when I kneeled in the mud of the black market, trading my life for the alchemist’s cure?”

“Where were you when I used my last Pureblood Essence to save Cassian in the dungeon?”

“Where were you just now, when I burned on those silver chains, condemned by everyone?”

Each question was another blade twisting in their hearts.

The three men shook in agony, unable to answer.

Because they knew–in every moment I needed them most, they chose Tania.

They chose to betray me.

“The Evelyn who loved you is dead.” My eyes were not fire and fury, but the dead calm of a frozen lake.

“She died in the sunlight of the gardens. She died in the mud of the black market. She died in the bloody

water of the cell.”

I gently pushed Valerius’s trembling hand away, letting the Blood Bond ring fall back into the blood.

Clink. It sounded like something breaking forever.

I unpinned the Nightfall Clan crest from my chest. I let it fall to the stone floor before them.

It was the symbol of my identity as the Lord’s former mate. My last tie to them.

“What you are crying for now is just your own guilt.”

I turned around, ready to leave this place of twisted memories.

“No!” Valerius lunged in despair, trying to grab my legs. “Don’t go! Don’t leave me! I’ll go mad! I’ll die!”

He grabbed empty air.

I had already dissolved into shadow and mist, drifting toward the shattered ceiling.

“Evelyn!” Julian roared in despair. “Sister! Come back! Please come back!”

“Master!” Cassian reached out, sobbing violently. “Don’t abandon us! We’ll change! We’ll do anything for you!”

I hovered in the air and gave them one final look.

Three men kneeling in a pool of blood, weeping helplessly like abandoned orphans.

But my heart felt absolutely nothing.

“Goodbye,” I whispered.

Then I flew into the free night sky and never looked back.

Behind me, the heart–wrenching screams of three men echoed forever in the freezing catacombs.

They would spend eternity in hopeless waiting, atoning for every tear I ever shed.

And I was finally free.

The night embraced me like a lover, and the moonlight crowned me its queen.

I was my own. At last.
