I Remarried My Ex And Stopped Loving Him Chapter 10

Jason sued her for leaking trade secrets and embezzling company funds. The evidence

was solid.

Emily was sentenced to three years in prison.

A month later, Jason and I finalized the divorce.

I dressed up nicely and even got my hair done.

Walking out of the county clerk’s office with my divorce certificate in hand, I felt lighter

than air.

Jason’s voice came from behind me. “Jess, let’s have one last meal together?”

I turned around.

Jason looked rough. He’d let himself go. His hair wasn’t styled anymore, just hanging

over his forehead. Dark circles under his eyes, hollow cheeks, stubble.

I guess the divorce hit him pretty hard this time.

I smiled. “I’m good. Got stuff to do.”

Then I got in my car and drove off without looking back.

Back when Lily was in the hospital, a nurse had bought a few pet sweaters from me. She

put one on her cat and posted it online. It unexpectedly went viral.

My online shop got flooded with orders practically overnight.

I couldn’t keep working out of the house anymore. After looking at a few places for a few

days, I signed a lease on a studio space.

The renovations were almost done. I was just letting the paint fumes air out.

Looking at the neat workbenches and shelves of supplies, I couldn’t help recording a little video and posting it to my account.

I used to tie my entire identity to Jason. What a stupid thing to do.

I should have broken out of that domestic cage a long time ago and found my own

worth.

This studio was the starting point of my new life.

No sooner had I posted the video than someone liked it.

The username was JH.

Kids’bones bounce back fast. Lily healed up quickly, and after her follow-up appointment, the doctor finally cleared her to go back to school.

One day, I picked her up from school. We got in the car, and I noticed a little boy in the

back seat.

Lily yelled, “Lucas Turner! What are you doing in my mom’s car?”

The boy covered her mouth. “Shh! If my uncle hears, I’m done for!”

Then a deep voice came from outside the car. “Lucas Turner. Get out here.”

I turned and saw a tall man with sharp features.

Lucas thrashed around, but the man picked him up like a kitten and carried him out.

He apologized to me and left with the boy.

“That’s the class bully from the older kids’ class,” Lily said, scrunching up her little forehead. “Ms. Young says we’re supposed to stay away from him.”

“Mommy, what does ‘rich and single’ mean?”

“During naptime, Ms. Young said Lucas’s uncle is ‘rich and single.””

I couldn’t help laughing. I pinched her cheek.

“Caught you. You didn’t sleep again today, did you?”

The studio had been doing better and better over the last year. I connected with a

factory and started mass production alongside my handmade items.

I wanted to slowly build my own brand.

One day, I went to the factory to tweak a detail and ran into the factory owner walking

someone out.

It was Lucas’s uncle.

We’d only met once. I nodded and was about to leave.

But he stopped me.

“I’m Sean Mitchell. Executive director of Mitchell Group.”

Sean had seen my studio’s products at the factory and was very interested.

As it turned out, his company needed a batch of year-end gifts. Small quantity, but high

standards.

They hadn’t found a design they liked yet.

I wasn’t about to pass up a good opportunity. We exchanged contact information.

When I got back to the studio, my new assistant Kevin told me someone was waiting for

I hadn’t seen Jason in a long time.

He looked even more wrecked than he had on the day of the divorce. His suit hung loose

on him, like it didn’t fit anymore.

When he saw me, his eyes lit up. He couldn’t hide the joy on his face.

Jason had set up a trust fund for Lily.

“I might not get to see her grow up.”

I froze and looked up at him.

Jason’s eyes were red. “Maybe it’s karma. I was diagnosed last month. Liver cancer.

Stage four.”

I opened my mouth, but I didn’t know what to say.

The room was silent.

The light in Jason’s eyes slowly died. He smiled bitterly.

Right before he left that day, he suddenly hugged me.

I felt tears fall on my neck.

Jason’s voice broke as he said, “I’m sorry.”

Four months later, Jason died.

He’d had his will notarized in advance. The company shares were split three ways- between me, Lily, and his mother.

“Your ex-husband finally did something right.”

Sean cut up my steak and swapped plates with me.

“You’ve been divorced for a while now. Ever think about seeing other people?”

I met his eyes. “Mr. Mitchell, when you say ‘other people,’ are you talking about yourself?”

“If that’s how you want to read it, sure.”

Our glasses clinked. We smiled at each other.
