I Remarried My Ex And Stopped Loving Him Chapter 09

I was about to refuse, but then I looked down and saw Lily’s little face tilted up at me. I

sighed.

Even though I didn’t want to see Jason, he was still Lily’s father.

The secretary dropped Jason off and left.

I threw a wet towel on his face. “Stop faking it. You can hold your liquor way better than

this.”

He was quiet for a moment. Then Jason slowly sat up, his eyes red as he looked at me.

“If I didn’t pretend to be wasted, you never would’ve opened the door.”

I just watched him in silence.

Jason ran his fingers through his hair. His voice suddenly cracked.

“I’m sorry. I had no idea Emily was coming after you.”

“Behind my back, she used Harrington Technologies to reach out to some of your

father’s business partners. She sabotaged the whole thing.”

“And then she kept blocking you from getting jobs. Over and over again.”

I straightened up, shocked.

So that was why I couldn’t keep any job, even though I graduated from a good

university.

Eventually, companies stopped even inviting me for interviews.

In the end, I had to sell things from a street stall just to get by.

Jason’s eyes were bloodshot. His face was full of remorse. “I’m so sorry…”

“When you didn’t come back to me, I was so angry that I stopped paying attention to

what was happening to you.”

He walked closer, his eyes downcast and sad.

“Are you… never going to forgive me?”

For a moment, I saw the old Jason. The one who’d been flustered and nervous when I confessed my feelings. The one who’d skipped class to drive me to the hospital when I sprained my ankle in PE. The one who’d been so excited about my pregnancy that he took the wrong turn on the highway.

And then I saw the other Jason. The one who’d looked at me with disgust and said he

regretted marrying me.

The last time we divorced, I was too busy just trying to survive to feel sorry for myself.

But now I knew. I had finally, completely let go.

I shook my head. “I don’t hate you. So what is there to forgive?”

Jason’s eyes welled up instantly. He turned his head away, ashamed.

I said calmly, “From now on, the only connection between us is that we’re Lily’s

parents.”

Then I went back to my room.

I don’t know how much time passed before I heard the front door close.

I came out and saw the signed divorce agreement on the coffee table.

Some of the terms had been changed.

Jason had added more assets for me. I was richer now than he was.

The lawyer had everything ready. We filed a direct lawsuit to force Emily Dawson to return all the marital assets she’d taken from Jason and me.

The day of the trial, Emily wasn’t her usual flashy, luxury-brand self.

She dropped the helpless act and glared at me with pure hatred.

The bank records and receipts didn’t lie. She was ordered to pay back a small fortune,

hundreds of thousands.

While Lily and I were struggling to afford food, Jason had been throwing money at his

so-called “friend.”

I felt someone’s eyes on me.

I pretended not to notice.

After the verdict, I walked straight out.

Emily ran after me and screamed, “Jessica Harrington! Don’t think you’ve won!”

I stopped, turned around, and laughed.

“Everything you fought so hard for? I never even wanted it. You’re only fit to take my garbage.”

She was so furious she jumped up and down. She lunged at me to slap my face, but someone grabbed her by the back of her collar and shoved her aside.

Jason gave her one cold look, then started walking toward me.

Emily shrieked, “Jason! I waited for you all those years! How could you do this to me?”

“You promised my mother you’d take care of me forever! Have you forgotten?”

Jason’s face darkened. He hurried to explain. “Jess, nothing ever happened between us!”

I smiled, completely indifferent, and walked away.

We were getting divorced. Who cared if they’d had a thing or not?

A week later, my lawyer called. “Emily Dawson is going to prison.”
