I Planned to Announce My Pregnancy, Boyfriend and Bestie Announced Their Wedding Chapter 04

[Elena’s POV]

All I could see was Mom choking on blood.

I stumbled to my knees beside her and pulled her into my arms, feeling as though a dull knife were carving me apart from the inside.

“Mom, wake up. Please… please don’t leave me. I’m begging you.”

Tears drowned everything.

Even through my tears, I clearly saw Vivian stop Nathan from running across the road.

She shook her head at him, and he actually stopped in his tracks.

He simply stood there watching me, his fists clenched and his eyes red.

Damn them. They were both responsible for my mother’s death.

I held my mother as she grew cold. I swore I’d make them pay.

At the funeral, Nathan and Vivian showed up.

I shoved them toward the door.

“Get out! I don’t want to see you!”

Vivian looked at me.

“Elena, we’re just here to pay our respects.”

“Shut up!”

I grabbed her collar and slapped her hard across the face.

“Vivian, don’t think I don’t know who spread those rumors! Why did you do it? My mom was always good to you. She treated you like her own daughter for years!”

I raised my hand again. Nathan caught my wrist.

He flung me aside, and I crashed into the table. Mom’s framed photo fell to the floor, shattering the glass.

“Enough!”

Nathan stood in front of Vivian.

“Vivi was just worried about you! Have you lost your mind?”

“You don’t even know—”

“Nathan!”

Vivian cut him off.

“Don’t. Aunt Maggie just passed away, and Elena is grieving. I understand.”

“Let’s go. We can come check on Elena another day.”

Vivian looped her arm through Nathan’s and came back to me.

“Elena, you’re my best friend. Nathan and I are getting married tomorrow. You have to come.”

I slumped on the floor, clutching the broken frame to my chest.

They left.

I collapsed and sobbed until I had nothing left.

In just two days, I’d lost the man I loved, my baby, and my only parent.

I stared after them, my eyes burning. They had taken everything from me.

Fine. You want me at your wedding? I’ll be there, and I’ll bring a gift you’ll never forget.

This time, I wasn’t letting them off.
