I left the company I had been working for.

When I submitted my resignation letter, Rafe asked if it was because of him.

“No.”

Rafe clearly did not believe me.

I patiently explained to him that an upperclassman from my college days had also come to New York. He was planning to start a company and had asked me to join him as a founding partner.

Rafe had recently become very fond of acting needy with me.

He kept asking how that upperclassman from college and I had met.

I patiently told him the story.

He did not want me to leave this company, and he did not want any other men around me.

But Rafe knew very well that he could not lock me up.

After signing off on my resignation letter, Rafe suddenly asked without any lead-in, “Have you forgiven me?”

It took me a moment to realize what he was talking about.

Every once in a while, he would ask me this question.

“No.”

He was not discouraged and asked again, “Then when are you planning to forgive me?”

“I don’t know.”

“Maybe tomorrow.”

“Maybe never.”

Rafe gave a soft huff, then said to himself, “Then we’ll wait it out.”

“One day, you’ll forgive me.”

I smiled and did not argue with him.

When I reached the door, I suddenly turned back.

“Rafe.”

He was looking at me too.

“Yeah?”

“My mom wants you to come to our place for dinner tonight.”

The man who had looked so melancholy just a moment ago suddenly broke into a smile.

For a single instant, the perfectly tailored black suit in front of me overlapped with the blue-and-white school uniform he had worn at eighteen.

Time had moved on.

Everyone and everything had changed.

Only Rafe was still the same Rafe from back then.
