I Called the Don My Future Brother-in-Law. He Called Me His Chapter 02

The air in the room seemed to turn heavy in an instant.

That burning, dangerous gaze landed on me and never left.

Elias patted my shoulder lightly, signaling for me to stand and greet him.

It looked like there was no avoiding this.

But then I thought about it again. Six years had passed. Rafe Vittori was the infamous mafia prince of the Manhattan underworld.

The one thing he never lacked was women. There was no reason for him to still be hung up on someone as insignificant as me.

With that thought in mind, I stood up anyway and quietly moved beside Elias, trying to keep my voice steady.

“Hello, Rafe. I’m Sera.”

His gaze was cold and direct, carrying an undisguised aggression.

I was even a little afraid that he would say something he should not in the very next second.

After all, this engagement dinner mattered a lot to my mother.

And I did not want anything to go wrong.

So I added, “If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll be your future sister-in-law.”

I was stating my position.

I was also warning him not to act out.

But I had forgotten that Rafe had never been the kind of man who listened to warnings.

After six years apart, he had only become crazier than before, and even more powerful.

In front of everyone, he casually dropped the cigarette between his fingers. One of the capos behind him stepped forward at once and silently crushed it under his shoe.

Another capo stood by the door, his cold gaze sweeping across the entire private dining room as if he were clearing the room for the Vittori heir.

More than a few nervous guests recognized the scar-faced capo known as “The Executioner.” They dropped all pretense of composure and hurried out, nearly breaking into a run.

The entire dining room emptied in an instant.

Even Dominic Vittori, the Don of the Vittori Family, stayed silent and even took half a step back, allowing Rafe to walk toward me with complete ease.

“Sister-in-law?”

His voice was full of open mockery. With both hands tucked into the pockets of his dress pants, he completely ignored Elias beside me.

After stopping in front of me, he bent down slightly and leaned close to my ear. His voice was low and dangerous.

“You think becoming my half-brother’s fiancée wipes the slate clean between us?”

He did not raise his voice, but it was loud enough for everyone in the private dining room to hear clearly.

Dominic was the first to react, and his expression changed at once.

“Sera, you know Rafe?”

I tightened my grip on the edge of my bridal dress until my fingertips turned slightly pale.

But on my face, I still kept a proper smile.

“We went to high school together.”

The moment those words left my mouth, the coldness in Rafe’s eyes deepened sharply, and even that faint, mocking almost-smile disappeared from the corner of his lips.

He narrowed his eyes and stared at me as if he were looking at prey that had no idea it was about to die.

“Just classmates?”

It was not only him.

Everyone at the table was waiting for my answer.

I lifted my eyes and met his gaze head-on.

“Just classmates.”

After hearing that, Rafe’s body stiffened for the briefest moment.

Then he straightened and looked down at me from above.

He was already tall, and when he looked at someone like that, the pressure was almost suffocating. Worse, I was guilty to begin with.

“Sera.”

He suddenly called my name.

Then, in front of everyone, he spoke with slow, deliberate clarity.

“You weren’t just some ordinary classmate of mine.”

“You were my high school sweetheart.”
