I Called the Don My Future Brother-in-Law. He Called Me His Chapter 16

When I shut my laptop, my mother happened to come in with a’glass of milk.

“Mom, how have you been feeling lately?”

I took the milk and looked up at her as I asked.

Back then, we had moved to New York for her treatment.

“Much better.”

“Don’t worry about me. Go to bed early.”

I nodded.

She watched me finish the milk before she felt reassured enough to leave.

I slept very well that night.

But some people were not going to sleep at all.

When I woke up the next morning and checked my phone, sure enough, Celeste’s name was still trending at the top of every major platform.

It was Saturday.

I had deliberately chosen Friday night to upload that audio anonymously.

It was a recording of what she had said when she bullied me in high school.

Her voice was too beautiful and too recognizable.

So it was easy for people online to identify her as the person speaking.

Aside from that, I had also anonymously submitted concerns about possible academic fraud to the medical board and the alumni association.

I had only raised a few simple questions.

Soon enough, other people amplified those questions and drew attention from the relevant

institutions.

In just one night, the name Celeste Arden had been labeled with bullying, scandals, and academic

fraud.

I scrolled through what people online had dug up.

No matter how Celeste tried to argue her way out this time, there was no coming back for her.

When my mother knocked on the door and came in to call me for breakfast, she saw me frowning tightly.

“What’s wrong, Sera?”

I locked my phone and forced a smile.

“Nothing.”

I only took a few bites at breakfast.

After returning to my room, I opened my phone again and found the comment I had read earlier.

It turned out that in high school, I had not been the only girl Celeste bullied.

There had been another girl I did not know. Just because Celeste found out she had a crush on Rafe, she was bullied and humiliated until she had no choice but to withdraw from school and go home.

That comment had been posted by the girl’s mother.

And her daughter was no longer alive.

It had only been a teenage girl’s innocent crush.

But because a demon like Celeste existed, her entire life had been destroyed.

She had done nothing wrong.

I had done nothing wrong either.

None of us had done anything wrong.

The one at fault was Celeste.

The bystanders were at fault too.

The truly evil people were at fault.

I collapsed onto the bed and squeezed my eyes shut.

But warm tears still spilled from the corners of my eyes.
