Early the next morning, Rafe was waiting downstairs outside my apartment building with a bouquet of flowers.

Only then did I realize exactly what I had said on impulse the night before.

I walked over and saw the shadows under his eyes. It was obvious he had not slept well all night.

Rafe handed me a document.

“I had the lawyers draft it overnight.”

“If there’s no problem, sign it.

A few bold words were printed across the top of the document.

Prenuptial Agreement.

He clearly was not smiling, yet somehow, the look in his eyes made it obvious that he was in a good

mood.

I was about to say something when Rafe continued.

“I’ve already told Old Don about the marriage.”

“He already had a date picked.”

“Today is perfect for filing our marriage paperwork.”

He was being far too impatient.

I only skimmed the prenuptial agreement in my hand.

Rafe held his breath as he watched me, as if he were waiting for my verdict.

“Rafe.”

I called his name and handed the document back to him.

The proud, untamed man froze noticeably.

He took the document, his gaze locked tightly on my face.

“Last night… I was joking.”

The hand holding the document dropped. His other hand slid into his pants pocket, his lips pressed

into a thin line, and irritation had already begun to show on his face.

“Sera, is it fun to make a fool out of me?”

Morning light fell across him.

Rafe narrowed his eyes at me.

“You were the one who said you wanted to marry me.”

“It’s too late to regret it now.”

“If you’re willing to marry me, then we’ll get married.”

“If you’re not, I don’t mind forcing this marriage through.”

“After all, in your heart, I’m already a rotten bastard.”

“So I might as well be rotten to the end.’

When he saw me frown, his tone softened again very quickly.

“Sera, don’t do this to me.”

“Don’t keep giving me a little hope, only to crush it with your own hands.”

I was the kind of person who responded to softness, not force.

The harsh words that had reached my lips were forced back by the hint of tears in his eyes.

“I don’t like you,”

Rafe nodded.

“Yeah, I know.”

“I only lied to you and used you back then,” I said.

His expression tightened with resentment.

“I know that too.”

“But it doesn’t matter, Sera.”

He took a step forward and spoke in a low voice.

“You can keep using me now.”

“I have money. I have power. I don’t look bad, and my body is good enough for you to inspect

yourself.”

He lowered his eyes to me, his voice turning a little hoarse.

“If you want to get revenge on Celeste, I can hand you the knife.”

“If you want to make Elias jealous, I can act with you.”

“If you simply want a man, I can be that too.”

“It doesn’t matter whether you like me or not.”

“I only want you to stay by my side.”

“The Rafe standing in front of you now is more useful than the one from high school.”

“So you have no reason to reject me.”

He was no longer that boy of few words from years ago.

Now, he was silver-tongued, praising himself to the skies, all just to make me stay.

Unfortunately, none of what he said tempted me much.

God had not let my hard work go to waste.

Years of studying had given me enough confidence and enough standing.

They were enough for me to face Rafe today and refuse him without fear.
