The cold late-autumn wind cut through the air.

Ava had no idea how long she had been kneeling.

Her knees had already gone numb.

When the banquet ended, the guests filed outside.

Some deliberately bumped into her while mocking her under their breath.

Someone even stepped directly on her hand with the narrow heel of a stiletto.

Pain shot through Ava’s fingers.

She looked up.

It was Mia.

Mia sneered.

“Now everyone knows you’re a filthy, shameless whore.”

“You’re the one who’ll never belong in the Family’s inner circle.”

The guests had already left, and the family guards holding Ava down had withdrawn.

Ava lowered her gaze to the heel pressing into the back of her hand.

Then she suddenly grabbed Mia’s ankle and yanked.

Mia crashed to the ground.

Ava seized her by the hair and used all her remaining strength to slam her face into the gravel.

Blood covered Mia’s face.

She screamed furiously, “How dare you hit me?”

Ava held her down, her voice hoarse.

“Did you really think I wouldn’t fight back?”

“You set me up, and now you’re going to pay for it.”

Not long after, Ava was thrown into an underground storage room.

She stared at the blood on her hands, but she couldn’t bring herself to smile.

The bruises on her knees throbbed.

The scrapes on her arms from Matteo dragging her across the ground burned like fire.

When Matteo lifted Mia into his arms, Ava turned her face away.

He used to protect Ava like that.

Ava had majored in art and loved collecting famous paintings.

Matteo had bought her an entire gallery and filled it with works by renowned artists.

He didn’t care whether the gallery made a profit.

He only wanted her to enjoy the collection by herself.

When Ava became interested in theme parks, Matteo personally took part in the design and construction of a private amusement park for her.

He even named it after her.

Anything Ava casually mentioned one day would appear on her desk the next.

In the past, even the smallest injury had made Matteo worry for a long time.

Now he wouldn’t even look at her.

Sitting alone in the darkness, Ava finally cried.

She had agreed to remarry him only because she still couldn’t let him go.

Now even that last trace of attachment was gone.

She would never look back again.

Ava didn’t know how long she had been locked in the basement before the door finally opened.

She had barely started to leave when Matteo blocked her path and said coldly, “You’re my wife. If you’re not living with me, where exactly do you think you’re going?”

Ava couldn’t fight him, so she had no choice but to stay.

Then she discovered that someone else had taken over her old bedroom.

Mia smiled.

“I forgot to tell you. Matteo didn’t just invite me to live here. He also gave me this room.”

Ava looked at Matteo.

He spoke without emotion.

“Luca can’t live without his biological mother. Mia can take better care of him.”

Ava looked away.

“Then I’ll stay in a guest room.”

With that, she turned and left.

Matteo frowned as he watched her walk away.

Mia moved into the villa just like that.

Ava didn’t care.

Every day, she checked only one thing: the status of her residency application.

Then Matteo ordered her to learn from Mia how to care for Luca.

Mia treated Ava like a servant, as though she were the true Donna of the house.

Ava couldn’t be bothered to deal with her.

Matteo responded by cutting off Ava’s meals and forbidding the estate staff from bringing her food.

When Ava went to find him, he was checking Luca’s schoolwork with a stern expression.

Mia stood beside him, smiling as she handed him a glass of water.

The 3 of them looked like a real family.

Ava looked like the outsider intruding on them.

She didn’t approach.

She simply turned and walked away.
