He Took the Wrong Turn on Our Wedding Day Chapter 05

Orthopedic trauma: that’s what the clinic was supposed to be. So why was he staring at a photo of a brass

diabetic foot care sign? Grant’s frown deepened.

None of it made sense.

He called Bianca.

“What the hell kind of clinic was that? The sign says diabetic foot care. Bianca, tell me you didn’t do this on

purpose.”

Bianca played dumb.

“Wrong one? I had no idea.”

She shrugged it off the way she always did.

A little mistake had never been a big deal to Bianca.

Grant had always cleaned up after her.

But this time she’d gone too far.

“Bianca, haven’t you done enough? You know what Serena’s going through. She’s been tearing herself apart

trying to find help for her mom, and you hand me this garbage?”

Bianca bit her lip.

She deflected. Like always.

“I didn’t know, okay? Someone recommended it and I thought it might help, so I passed it along. I didn’t check

the department.”

Grant’s patience snapped.

“You passed along a doctor you didn’t even vet? How am I supposed to explain this to Serena?”

He tried calling Serena. She didn’t pick up. Not once.

A sick feeling settled in his gut.

Had she gone back to her hometown?

Serena had moved across the country to be with him.

They were supposed to have their perfect wedding.

What had he let happen?

He scrambled to track her down.

Bianca caught his arm.

“You’re not seriously going after her, are you? She’s hours away.”

Grant looked at her.

She’d handed him that garbage referral in the first place.

Would any of this be happening if she hadn’t?

Bianca crossed her arms.

“How is that my fault? You’re the one who didn’t check the credentials before you went.”

She always had a way out. Every single time.

Grant was done talking to her.

He just needed to reach Serena.

That’s when an anonymous message pinged on his phone. Footage from the accident.

Bianca hadn’t even noticed. She was still going. “It wasn’t even my fault. Fine, I’ll say sorry if it’ll shut

everyone up. It’s not that serious. Serena probably went back to her parents‘ house already.”

Grant knew the condo had been empty for days.

He’d assumed Serena had taken her mom somewhere for treatment and just hadn’t come back yet.

Honestly, it had given him space.

He’d had the place to himself.

He didn’t have to make up reasons to go see Bianca.

He pressed play.

Bianca was on camera, bragging to a group of friends at a cafe.

“It’s not like I planned it. I just noticed they were in my way, and then, bam. Besides, her mom was giving me

a dirty look. That’s what threw me off.”

The venom in her voice was unmistakable.

“Bianca. Did you do it on purpose?”

The color drained from Bianca’s face.

“No. I didn’t. I swear I didn’t.”

Grant grabbed her by the arm and hauled her up.

“Tell me the truth, Bianca.”

Nobody had died in the crash.

But both of Serena’s parents were still paying the price for it.

Grant had resented their pushback about his relationship with Bianca at the time, sure.

But everyone knew they were just looking out for their daughter.

“Bianca, you crossed a line. You should never have been behind that wheel. You could’ve killed someone and

you don’t even care.”

Bianca snapped.

“So everything’s my fault now? You’re only panicking because you’re scared Serena’s actually done with you.

You really thought she’d never leave, didn’t you?”

That one landed.

Because she was right.

He’d always assumed Serena would stay, no matter what. And that certainty had made him reckless.

He’d poured more and more of himself into Bianca instead.

Whenever Bianca had a problem, he showed up. Every time.

Because Serena would never leave. That was always the safety net.

He’d trashed her wedding.

Forgot to pick her up. And somehow convinced himself none of it mattered.

Her text flashed through his mind.

[The wedding is permanently off.]

He’d read that as postponed. A raincheck.

It had never crossed his mind that she meant forever.

The dread hit him all at once.

Something was slipping away from him, and he could feel it.

It was the same way Serena had slipped away, out of reach, already gone.

She was leaving him.

He’d never planned to cancel the wedding. Not really.

It was just postponed. That’s all it was.

There hadn’t been another option that day.

Everything was already a mess. He’d just gone along with Bianca to get through the night.
