He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 22

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 22

The operating room light stayed on all night.

It wasn’t until daybreak that the doctor finally stepped out.

“The surgery was successful. The bullet didn’t hit anything vital. He just lost too much blood and needs time

to rest

At last, the weight hanging over Summer’s heart lifted.

When Adrian opened his eyes in the hospital room, the first thing he saw was Summer sitting by his bedside.

Her eyes were bloodshot, and exhaustion had drained the color from her face, but she sat there quietly,

watching him.

He moved his fingers slightly, his voice rough and weak. “I thought… when I woke up, I’d never see you again.”

“Adrian, you saved me. I owe you my life. But what’s between us is really over.”

His eyes reddened, and in that moment, the obsession he had clung to for so long finally collapsed.

He looked at her and gave a faint nod.

“I know. I was wrong. I mistook possession for love and control for devotion. I hurt you more deeply than I can ever undo. I’m not asking for your forgiveness. I just hope that from now on, you’ll live well.”

Summer froze.

She had imagined him raging, fighting, or trying to lock her up again.

But she had never imagined he would let go this quietly.

“My grandfather told me a long time ago that love isn’t a cage. I chased you halfway across the world before

I finally understood that what you wanted was never wealth or privilege. It was freedom.”

“I’m letting you go.”

“Thank you.”

Summer rose to her feet and, for the first time, truly studied the haggard man in front of her.

All those years of love and hate seemed to dissolve in that single moment.

Ethan pushed open the door and stepped into the room, coming to stand quietly at Summer’s side. He

looked at Adrian and gave him a small nod.

Adrian returned the look. “Dr. Shaw… take care of her for me. She’s afraid of the dark, and her stomach’s never been strong. Don’t let her suffer.”

It was him entrusting her to someone else, and finally letting her go for good,

Ethan nodded solemnly. “I will.”

A week later, Adrian was discharged from the hospital.

He didn’t return to the private estate. He didn’t go back to the villa in Port Sterling, either. Instead, the first thing he did was contact his lawyer and liquidate every asset in his name.

He kept nothing.

He turned it all into anonymous donations. Part of it went to children’s homes. The rest was quietly transferred into Summer’s account, enough to let her live the rest of her life in peace and comfort.

When it was done, he packed one small suitcase and went to the airport alone.

That same day, a wedding was being held in a church not far away.

Wearing a white wedding gown, Summer walked down the aisle on Ethan’s arm, step by step toward the altar.

There was no noise, no spectacle, only a quiet kind of happiness.

“Summer, I’ll love you for the rest of my life. Through every season of life, I’ll stay by your side, always be

there for you, and take care of you.”

“From the day I found you again, I knew you were the one I wanted for the rest of my life.”

The moment he finished speaking, applause rose from the seats below.

Tears slowly filled Summer’s eyes.

Just as the priest began reciting the vows, a church attendant suddenly delivered an anonymous gift.

It was a deed transferring ownership of an oceanfront villa overseas with no strings attached, a black card

with no spending limit, and a thin note with just one line written on it.

[Wishing you peace year after year, and happiness for the rest of your life.]

Summer held the note in her hand, but she never turned around.

She knew it was him.

She had finally awakened completely from that long, cold dream that had entangled half her life.

And at that same moment, a plane was cutting through the clouds.

As Adrian watched the city grow smaller and smaller beneath him, taking with him every memory tied to it,

he slowly closed his eyes.

There was no hatred left in his heart. No pain either. Only peace.

He had let her go, and he had finally set himself free too.

From then on, they were worlds apart.

They would never meet again.

All that remained was to wish each other well from afar.
