He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 01

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 01

After the car crash left her unable to walk, Summer Hayes became Adrian Carter’s most “understanding” wife.

When Adrian came home drunk with one of his flings wrapped around his arm, she thoughtfully had a room prepared for them and checked herself into a hotel.

If Adrian casually said he missed the one he never got over, she would have that woman brought to him that very night.

If one of his flings got upset, she would rush to smooth things over personally, buying handbags, cars, even houses, never letting any of them make a scene in front of Adrian.

Everyone said she was only this obedient because she was crippled now and afraid Adrian would throw her away. Even Adrian believed she would have no choice but to depend on him for the rest of her life.

Then one day he showed up with her pregnant best friend and said, “Lola says you can’t have children, but she’s willing to give you this baby. From now on, she’ll be part of the family too.”

Summer smiled and nodded. But the moment she turned around, she went straight to the old Carter estate and dropped to her knees before the patriarch who had pleaded with her, time and again, to endure it.

“Grandpa, the Carter family has an heir now. Please help me leave.”

“Two years, and you still want to go?” the Carter patriarch said from the sofa with a weary sigh. “Back then, Adrian only rammed your car because he was terrified you’d really leave him. He just loves in a way that’s too extreme.”

“Your legs are almost healed, Summer. The Carter family can guarantee you a life of wealth and comfort.”

“Grandpa, you promised me that once the Carter family had an heir, you’d help me leave. I don’t want anything else. I just want out.”

She knelt there with her eyes lowered, staring at her own legs.

Adrian never knew they were almost healed. She could already walk again.

But every time she thought about that crash, the memory of her bones shattering still clawed its way back, and her whole body started trembling before she could stop it.

He sighed again. “It’ll take a month to put everything in place. After that, I’ll have security escort you out of the country, and every trace of your identity will be erased.”

At those words, the nerves that had been wound tight inside Summer for the past two years finally loosened.

When she stepped out of the estate, rain was pouring down outside.

She looked up at the dark, swollen sky and thought of the day Adrian cheated on her.

The weather had been just like this.

She had been eight months pregnant. His assistant had called to say an urgent document had been left behind in the study and Adrian needed to sign it right away, so she drove it to the office herself.

But the moment she walked in, she saw clothes were strewn everywhere. The air was thick with intimacy hit her so hard she doubled over and vomited.

And sprawled across the couch were her husband and the assistant who had called her there.

In that instant, it felt as if something inside her had suddenly gone wrong.

Cold terror swallowed her whole, and she turned to flee.

Adrian ran after her, grabbing her arm and explaining himself over and over. He even dropped to his knees in front of her and begged for forgiveness.

“Summer, I never meant to hurt you. Things got out of control with my assistant. It was a mistake. Please forgive me.”

“It won’t happen again. I know I was wrong. Just give me one more chance, Summer. Please don’t leave me.”

Breaking down, she wrenched herself free and slapped him hard across the face.

“I told you that if you ever did anything to betray me, I would leave. You knew that, Adrian. You knew, and you still did it anyway!”

After that, she drove home alone, packed her things, printed out the divorce papers, signed them, and threw them at him. No matter what Adrian said, she refused to look back.

Then, just as she was driving away for good, Adrian tore after her through the storm and, like a madman, slammed his car into hers.

Their baby was gone after that, and the bones in her legs were shattered. The doctors said she needed surgery immediately.

But Adrian ordered them to stop. Instead, he had them give her medication that would numb her leg.

He knelt in front of her hospital bed and said, “Summer, we’ve been together since I was eighteen. I love you. There is no way I’m ever letting you leave me. As long as you stay with me, I’ll make sure your leg is treated.”

She desperately tried to run, only to collapse to the floor, her legs completely numb.

Adrian picked her up. Crying, she clung to his shoulder, overwhelmed by emotions, and all he said was,“Those women meant nothing. They were just a distraction. No one can take your place. You have my word.”

“Summer, you’re never leaving my side. Not in this lifetime.”

That day, the hospital room was filled with her screams and the sound of her despair.

Later, the Carter patriarch told her the Carter family had helped her too much over the years for her to simply walk away now. He asked her to endure it for the sake of everything the family had done for her, because Adrian was only fooling around with those women, while she could no longer have children, and the family needed an heir.

He promised that once the Carter family had one, he would let her go.

After that day, she changed.

She became the “understanding” wife everyone talked about, the woman who could soothe her husband’s mistresses just to keep him happy, the crippled wife too afraid of being abandoned to do anything but obey.

The rain came down harder. Cold water ran down her cheeks, and when Summer lifted a hand to wipe it away, she realized she had already been crying.

She took a deep breath and called a cab back to the villa.

This time, she could finally leave.

She could finally leave that devil for good.
