He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 02

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 02

Back at the villa, Summer Hayes settled into her wheelchair as naturally as ever and pushed the door open.

A hen flew straight into her face, its sharp claws leaving scratches across her cheek.

“Oh my God, my chicken! Why would you open the door like that?”

“Summer, come help for a second. Oh, right, I forgot you can’t walk. Then quit blocking the way.”

The sting across her face was what finally made her register what was happening.

Lola Monroe’s parents were here.

This was the same family she had once helped when debt collectors had shown up at Lola’s school and made a scene. And now, because of her husband, they had moved into her home.

“Summer, is your face okay? My parents were worried pregnancy had been hard on me, so they brought over some farm-raised chickens to make me something nourishing,” Lola said as she walked over with one hand resting on her swollen belly.

Lowering her eyes to her belly, she smiled with an almost maternal softness.

“I used to envy you so much. You were pretty, from a good family, and your boyfriend was the richest man in Port Sterling. Back then, I used to think, what if I could have all of that too?”

“But you can’t really blame me. If anyone’s to blame, it’s you. You’re crippled, and you can’t have children.”

Summer stayed perfectly calm as she listened.

Then she looked up at Lola, her dark eyes full of quiet mockery. “Do you really think that baby came to be on its own?”

Lola’s expression shifted. “What is that supposed to mean?”

But Summer had no interest in answering. She simply turned her wheelchair and went back to her room.

No one knew that Lola’s pregnancy had been part of her plan all along.

The taunting texts, the carefully planted suggestions from other people, even the wine that had done the rest, every bit of it had been arranged by her.

She had spent two full years planning this escape.

Then, all at once, the bedroom door swung open.

Snapping back to the present, she looked up and saw Adrian standing there with a cold face. He shut the door in silence, walked over, and threw a stack of photos down beside her.

“Care to explain?”

Her eyes dropped to the photos, and her heart lurched.

They showed her arranging for Lola to be sent to Adrian’s bed, along with screenshots of messages where she had encouraged Lola to get pregnant and use the baby to secure her place.

Her fingers tightened into a fist, but her face remained calm.

“Didn’t you want a child? Lola likes you, and I thought she was a suitable choice.”

Adrian let out a cold laugh, his eyes glinting with frost. “So you really planned all of this. You sent another woman to your own husband’s bed, and you don’t even care?”

“Care about what?” she asked, slowly unclenching her fist.

“You weren’t jealous of those other women, and now you’ve gone as far as arranging this yourself. You hand-delivered another woman to my bed. Do I mean anything to you at all?”

She looked into his dark eyes and found it almost funny.

Care?

What had he done when she still cared?

He cheated on her. He smashed her legs in that car crash. Their baby, already fully formed, died. And with that, so did her chance to ever become a mother.

And after that?

Adrian had apologized again and again, swearing it would never happen a second time. Back then, crushed under both physical pain and mental torment, she had even wanted to die. He kept forcing his way back into her life, kept saving her whenever she tried to end it, and at one point, she had truly thought about forgiving him.

And what had happened then?

He cheated again.

Again and again, he ground her sincerity into the dirt and trampled over it.

The Summer who had once loved Adrian had died completely in that rainstorm years ago.

“If you don’t like her, I can always pick someone else for you,” she said evenly.

“Summer!”

Adrian stared at her, his eyes burning with naked possessiveness. “Do you think that once I have this child, I’ll stop focusing on you?”

“So that’s what this is, isn’t it? You still want to leave me. Let me make this very clear. You are never leaving me.”

The second the words were out, he lifted her into his arms with a dark look on his face.

Her heart jolted.

“What are you doing? Put me down!”

She wanted to struggle. She wanted to run. But if she got out of the wheelchair and bolted now, Adrian would know her legs were recovering. All she could do was cling desperately to the edge of the cabinet.

“I’m going to make you understand that staying by my side is the only right choice you have.”

He spoke coldly into her ear. His fingertips were marked from how tightly he was gripping her, yet without a trace of pity, he dragged her out of the room, restrained her, and threw her into the car.

The car headed straight for the hospital.

The moment Summer saw where they were going, dread surged through her chest.

“Adrian… what are you going to do to me?”
