He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 20

The servant shook her head and gently pushed the jewelry back toward Summer,

“Mrs. Carter, I can’t take these. I know Mr. Carter’s temper. If I take anything from you, I won’t live to see

tomorrow.”

The light in Summer’s eyes dimmed little by little. She was just about to pull her hand back when the servant lowered her voice and quickly tipped her head toward the back of the villa.

“There’s an abandoned dog hole under the back garden wall, left over from when the grounds were first laid out years ago. No one pays attention to it, and security is lighter back there. That’s all I can tell you. Whether you make it out or not depends on your luck.”

After saying that, the servant didn’t dare linger. She lowered her head and hurried away.

Summer stood frozen in place, her heart pounding violently after hearing those few words.

But she didn’t hesitate for even a second.

Forcing herself to stay calm, she made her way down the hallway toward the backyard. Whenever she passed a bodyguard, she lowered her head and adjusted the hem of her dress, pretending she was only out for a walk, until she finally reached the back corner of the garden.

Behind a row of shrubs, there really was a small opening hidden under the overgrown weeds, barely wide enough for one person to crouch and squeeze through.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Summer bent down and crawled through.

The instant she emerged on the other side, the cool country air hit her face. She stumbled forward and broke

into a run toward the road in the distance.

As long as she could reach the road, as long as she could flag down a car, she could finally get away from Adrian for good.

But she had barely made it a few hundred yards when two dark figures suddenly lunged out of the trees, and

a towel was clamped hard over her nose and mouth.

Just before her consciousness faded, Summer saw only a blurry face twisted with malice.

Then everything went black.

At the same time, in the conference room, Adrian sat at the head of the table listening to a report from his

subordinates. His fingers tapped absently against the tabletop, but his mind had drifted back to the estate

long ago.

Suddenly, his private phone began vibrating wildly.

An unfamiliar number with no registered location flashed across the screen.

Adrian frowned, rose to his feet, and walked to the window before answering. “Who is this?”

A hoarse female voice came through the line, distorted by a voice changer and dripping with open

provocation. “Mr. Carter, long time no see. Want to know where your precious wife is right now?”

Adrian’s face darkened at once. “Who are you? Is this some kind of joke?”

He didn’t believe anyone would dare touch Summer right under his nose. The estate was heavily guarded.

There was no way she could have gotten out.

“Adrian, Summer is with me. If you want her alive, come alone. No bodyguards. No cops. Try anything clever,

and I’ll dump her in the water for the fish.”

“You dare touch her!”

Before he could say another word, the caller hung up.

Adrian yanked open the conference room door. “Get the car. We’re going back to the estate.”

The car tore down the road at breakneck speed. All he could think was that when he got back, he would find

Summer quietly waiting in the bedroom.

But the moment he shoved open the bedroom door, the empty room shattered every last bit of hope he had

been clinging to.

None of the servants or security staff had seen her for quite some time.

At last, he stormed down into the basement.

Ethan was tied to a chair, pale-faced. The moment he saw Adrian come in, fury flared in his eyes.

“Adrian! Where’s Summer? What did you do to her?”

Adrian grabbed him by the collar. “Was this you? Did you have someone take her?!”

“You locked me down here! I haven’t moved an inch! How could I have taken her? You’re the one who failed

to protect her! If anything happens to Summer, I will never forgive you!”

Looking at Ethan’s expression, Adrian felt as if all the blood in his body had frozen in an instant.

It wasn’t a prank.

And it wasn’t Ethan.

Summer had really been kidnapped.

Just then, his phone vibrated again.

A text from another unfamiliar number came through, containing nothing but a location pin.

Adrian stared at the coordinates, then turned and untied the ropes around Ethan.

“Come with me.”

Ethan blinked. “You…”

“Cut the crap. She’s in danger. We’re going to save her together.”
