He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 15

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 15

Early morning light slipped through the gap in the curtains, drawing a pale line across the floor.

Summer woke to the sound of Ethan’s steady breathing. He had stayed in the living room with her all night,

afraid she’d be frightened if he left her alone after everything that had happened.

She had barely sat up when a low knocking sound came from outside the door.

It wasn’t the furious pounding from the night before.

It was quieter than that, but there was something relentless in it, something that promised it would never

stop.

One knock came, then another, and then another, each one driving deeper into her already frayed nerves.

Summer’s face went white, and her fingers clenched tightly around the blanket.

Ethan got up at once, moving in front of her protectively as he spoke in a low, calming voice. “I’ll check. Don’t

say anything.”

He walked to the door but didn’t open it. “Adrian, if you don’t leave, I’m calling the police.”

Adrian’s voice came from outside, rough and hoarse, but still carrying that same obsession. “Ethan, let

Summer talk to me. I’m not leaving unless she sees me.”

Supporting herself against the wall, Summer made her way to the door one slow step at a time.

“Adrian, go away. I’m not seeing you.”

“If you won’t see me, then I’ll wait.” His voice slipped through the crack around the door. “I can wait a day, two days, a month, or a year. This house is yours, but it’s mine too. I can stand out here forever if I have to.”

Ethan’s brows locked together, and he pulled out his phone, ready to make the call.

“Don’t,” Summer said quickly. “Don’t call the police. He’s capable of anything. If you do, he’ll only become

even more extreme.”

She knew Adrian too well.

The man was proud, domineering, and controlling to the bone. Once he decided something belonged to him,

he would never let it go, even if destroying it was the only way to keep it.

During the day, things remained strangely quiet. Adrian didn’t pound on the door again. He simply stayed

outside.

When the house staff brought food and water, he kept the water and left the food untouched.

By evening, the light had begun to fade.

Summer went to the kitchen to get herself some water, but as she passed the window, a figure outside

caught the edge of her vision.

Adrian was leaning against his car door in a black shirt. The wound on the back of his hand had gone

untreated, the dried blood dark and crusted over.

His head was tilted up, and his eyes were fixed on the window of her bedroom. Even from that distance, she

could feel the heat of that stare.

The instant their eyes met, Summer flinched back, her heart slamming wildly against her ribs.

He had been watching her the whole time.

Not for one second had he stopped.

Ethan immediately pulled her into his arms. “Don’t look at him. Don’t let him get into your head.”

“What does he even want from me?” Summer’s voice broke. “I ran this far away. Why still won’t he leave me

alone?”

Just then, Adrian’s low voice drifted in from outside, edged with bitter self-mockery.

“Summer, I know I was unforgivably wrong. Lola fooled me, and I hurt you more deeply than anyone ever should have. I pushed you away with my own hands, then lost my mind trying to find you again.”

“I tore apart everything Lola built and made sure she’ll never recover from it. I dealt with everyone who hurt

you.

I made up for everything I could.”

“I’m not asking you to forgive me right now. I just want a chance to get close to you again. If you don’t want me to touch you or hold you, I can live with that. I’ll just stay somewhere you can see me and keep watch

over you. Is that enough?”

Summer clapped her hands over her ears and shook her head desperately. “I’m not listening. I’m not

listening.”

Ethan’s eyes went cold, and he shouted toward the door, “Adrian, she’s afraid of you now. All you’re doing is making her suffer more. If you really loved her, you’d let her go.”

“I love her,” Adrian shot back, “which is exactly why she can only belong to me. Ethan, don’t fool yourself into thinking you can protect her forever. The person I want, I’ll find again even if she runs to the ends of the

earth.”

“She’s my wife. She carries my mark. Her life has been tied to mine for a long time now. You think you can replace me? Not in this lifetime.”

Then, without warning, Adrian stepped closer. His palm flattened against the door, and when he spoke again, his voice had dropped to something dangerously low.

“Summer, open the door. If you don’t, I’m coming in. You know this door can’t stop me.”

Summer went rigid, her hands and feet turning ice-cold.

She knew he was right.

With Adrian’s resources, breaking through that door would take minutes.

The only reason he hadn’t done it yet was because some last shred of restraint was still holding him back,

because he was still waiting for her to turn around on her own.

But that made it even worse.

That made him even more terrifying.

Ethan pulled her closer behind him and raised his phone again. “Adrian, this is my last warning. Leave now, or I’m calling the police and reporting you for trespassing.”

“I can wait for the police,” Adrian said flatly. “I’d like to see whether they can force me out once and

somehow keep me away forever.”

“I’ve got all the time and patience in the world.”
