He Left Me in the Snow for His First Love. So I Left His Marriage Chapter 07

After saying that, I left home.

Before I went, I told Ethan I wouldn’t come back before the divorce, and that someone would come move my things in a couple of days.

He said nothing.

He didn’t stop me.

I owned another property in New York. After it had been renovated, I had barely stayed there.

I had bought it mainly as a place to land when something came up. Now I moved straight in, which saved trouble.

I handed off the project-site visit Ethan was supposed to make to our branch office.

My coworker said on the phone, “Mr. Pierce only brought his assistant. He didn’t bring his secretary. He even asked why you weren’t here.”

“I told him you transferred the project to me. He looked kind of unhappy.”

“What do you think that means?”

I said, “Who knows what he thinks. Good luck to you all.”

A week later, my lawyer contacted me.

She said Ethan refused to talk with her and insisted I had to be there. He wanted to speak to me face-to-face.

I had no choice but to go to his company.

After a week apart, he seemed a little thinner.

But he still had that look of someone who could solve anything. His back was always straight, his face calm, like a sheet of steel with no weak points.

I suddenly thought of the photos of him chasing Olivia overseas to ask for another chance.

Maybe Olivia was the only person allowed to see his vulnerability.

After we sat down, the first thing he said was, “I asked Olivia to resign.”

“She’s no longer my secretary.”

He paused.

“Claire, stop making trouble.”

I took a deep breath and tried to keep myself calm.

“I’ll say this one more time. I seriously want a divorce.”

“If you don’t want to negotiate, I’ll file directly.”

His face turned ugly, as if he couldn’t understand me.

Stubbornly, he said, “I didn’t think enough about you before. That was my fault.”

“From now on, if you don’t want to see Olivia, I won’t let her appear in front of you again. I won’t meet her privately.”

“If you want to know what I’m doing every day and who I meet, I can tell you everything.”

He was serious.

I knew he meant it.

But divorce wasn’t a negotiation.

It wasn’t something that disappeared just because the terms had been adjusted.

I shook my head weakly, stood, and turned to leave.

He shot up so fast he almost tripped over the chair, then grabbed me.

“Claire, let’s talk again.”

I looked back coldly.

“There’s nothing left to talk about.”

“Since you’re unwilling to negotiate the divorce, I’ll have my lawyer draft the agreement first. If you don’t agree, I’ll file directly.”

He held my wrist and refused to let go.

“But I suggest you agree.” I paused, and my tone dropped. “Ethan, I don’t want this to get ugly.”

At that, the color drained from his face inch by inch.

He let go.

I turned and left.

When I reached the lobby, I unexpectedly ran into Olivia.

The moment she saw me, the smile on her face vanished.

She stared at me coldly.

I looked straight ahead and tried to walk past her.

She stepped sideways and blocked me.

“Claire, I didn’t know you were this manipulative.”
