He Left Me in the Rain with No Memory And Now I’m Someone Else’s Wife Chapter 07

The rain was bone-chilling cold, seeping into his collar.

In his daze, Gideon couldn’t help but wonder.

How long had I been out in this freezing rain?

Would I be cold?

A person who couldn’t even remember who she was abandoned out here alone—would she be scared?

The more Gideon thought, the more panicked he became. His strides grew longer, almost stumbling as he crashed through the thickets.

“Ella! Where are you?”

He wanted to see me.

He wanted… he wanted to say sorry to me with his own mouth.

The storm came fast and left fast too.

After about an hour, the rain gradually stopped.

But they still hadn’t found a trace of me.

My parents called the police.

Officers were pulling footage from every nearby surveillance camera, searching for any sign of me.

Gideon sent out even more of the Ashford family’s people.

Every patch of field, every ravine, every riverbank nearby was turned over.

But… still no sign of me.

The family returned to the villa, uneasy and heartsick.

They thought about checking my room, wondering if I might have instinctively gone somewhere familiar.

They opened the door.

The room was still a wreck.

Wardrobe doors flung wide, clothes scattered, bedding piled messily in the corner.

Gideon stood in the doorway, his gaze landing on the diary on my desk.

The wind rustled the pages.

With trembling hands, Gideon and my parents flipped through it.

[Day 4 of memory loss. Sunny.]

[Today I passed a mall and saw a dress in the window. I loved it but it was too expensive. I stood there looking for a long time. Then Vanessa showed up, and Mom bought it for her without a second thought.]

[My memory is getting worse. I can’t even remember how Mom used to love me.]

[Day 5 of memory loss. Cloudy.]

[Gideon came over today. He sat on the sofa, peeling grapes for Vanessa. I brought him tea, but he didn’t even glance at me. He told me to get lost. It hurt, but I could take it.]

[Day 6 of memory loss. Cloudy.]

[Today I tried to picture Gideon’s face, but I couldn’t quite make it out anymore.]

[Good. I’m finally forgetting him.]

[Day 7 of memory loss. I seem to be forgetting more and more things.]

[1. I will never like Gideon Ashford again.]

[2. I’m an adult now. Remember to go to the bubble tea shop at 10 for my summer job to save up for college tuition. Address: 42 Camden High St, Milk & Pearl, Northern Line, Camden Town.]

[Break up with Gideon Ashford tomorrow.]

They reached the latest page.

[It seems like nobody loves me.]

There was nothing after that.

Just one big drop after another of dried tear stains, blurring the page into a mess.

I must have been writing and just couldn’t hold it together anymore.

I threw down the pen and sobbed my heart out.

My mother read this and broke down completely.

“Ella, I’m sorry. Mom was so wrong. I was so wrong…”

My father’s eyes reddened too, and he wept into his hands.

They brought Vanessa back from the hospital.

The living room was suffocatingly tense.

This was the first time my parents had ever been so harsh with Vanessa.

My mother sat on the sofa, staring venomously at Vanessa.

“Vanessa, I’m asking you one more time.”

“Did Ella really push you that day?”

Vanessa paled, then forced a smile as she leaned toward my mother.

“Mom, Dad, what’s gotten into you? Why are you being so mean to me all of a sudden?”

“Did that rotten Ella say something? She’s the biggest liar! She’s just trying to ruin me! Don’t believe a word she says!”

“Compete for favor?”

My father let out a cold laugh, his eyes full of disappointment.

“Vanessa, are you still not going to tell the truth?”

Gideon, who had been standing silently to the side, suddenly cut in coldly.

“The Croft villa has security cameras. We never checked them before because we trusted you. Vanessa, before we asked you, we already reviewed the footage.”

“You’d better come clean.”
