He Left Me in the Rain with No Memory And Now I’m Someone Else’s Wife Chapter 08

Vanessa tried to laugh it off.

“Why check the cameras? They’re probably broken anyway, right?”

“Just get Ella out here! Let her face me! Does she dare?”

Gideon roared, “Vanessa!”

“If you keep playing dumb, don’t blame me for being harsh!”

Vanessa finally looked genuinely scared.

She stammered out the truth.

“I, I just saw a lot of money in the piggy bank. I thought she must have stolen it, so I went to report her. And then I just… accidentally fell onto the broken pieces myself.”

My parents listened, their hands slowly clenching into fists.

But Gideon didn’t stop there. He coldly pressed further.

“And that time you said Ella scalded you with boiling water?”

Vanessa reluctantly confessed, “I saw her boiling water and wanted to scare her. But she was the one who couldn’t hold it steady and splashed herself.”

“Who told her she couldn’t hold it? A little burn didn’t disfigure her!”

Gideon’s eyes darkened.

“And what else?”

“And that time you said she pushed you down the stairs. And that time you said she put a dead rat in your backpack.”

Vanessa grew annoyed and screamed hysterically, “I did! I did it all!”

“I jumped down the stairs myself! I put the rat in my own bag! I did everything! I just can’t stand her! Seeing all of you fawn over her—I wanted her gone! I wanted her dead!”

Even after she finished this outburst, Vanessa still wore that smug, entitled look.

She was too confident.

Convinced that with my parents’ history of doting on her, even if they knew all these bad things she’d done, they’d just scold her for being “naughty” and go back to spoiling her.

She was about to sweet-talk her way out of it.

But when she turned around,

she met my parents’ eyes.

No longer full of love and indulgence.

It was hatred.

Pure, unmistakable hatred.

“Dad… Mom?”

Vanessa instinctively whispered, her voice shaky.

Smack!

The answer was my mother’s merciless slap.

It sent Vanessa flying across the room, crashing into a vase that shattered into pieces.

My mother trembled from head to toe, her teeth gritted.

“Don’t call me Mom. I don’t have a daughter as vile as you!”

“We kept you in this family out of gratitude for all those years of raising you, even knowing you’re not our blood! We didn’t keep you so you could walk all over Ella!”

My father stepped forward and glared at Vanessa.

“Get out. GET OUT!”

Vanessa lay on the floor, finally realizing she had messed up for real.

Vanessa scrambled to grab my father’s pant leg.

“No! Dad, Mom, let me explain…”

My father kicked her away, his eyes resolute.

“Someone! Drag her out!”

“From this day on, the Croft family has no such person as Vanessa!”

Five years passed in the blink of an eye.

The whole city knew that the Croft family’s real heiress had gone missing five years ago.

A massive citywide search had turned up nothing.

The only clue they ever found was a blurry surveillance clip from that abandoned road. Nothing else.

And Vanessa, once the pampered fake heiress, had been publicly disowned by the Crofts.

Her grades were terrible—my parents had originally planned to buy her way into college.

But now, she was thrown out onto the streets.

No degree, no connections—she couldn’t even find a place to crash in this city.

In the beginning, she tried to borrow money from her old friends.

But word spread fast—she was a pariah kicked out by the Crofts.

Everyone who used to fawn over her now dodged her like the plague.

Over those five years, she worked the lowest of jobs—handing out flyers, hostessing at nightclubs, and even getting arrested twice for shoplifting.

She now lived in a damp, dark basement in a rundown apartment, worrying every day about how to afford a few bucks for food.

Sometimes when she got drunk, she’d scream at strangers that she was the real Croft heiress, that that bitch Ella had stolen everything from her.

But no one believed her.

Who could connect this woman to the arrogant, pampered second miss of the Croft family?

All anyone saw was a raving lunatic.
