He Gave Her a Wedding, So I Named My Gown Farewell Chapter 04

“Elena, do you want to download it and play with us?”

“No. I don’t like games.”

“Exactly. Don’t drag Elena into it. We’d have to carry her as a total rookie, and we’d never win.”

My gaze moved between them.

Then Adrian placed the last piece of lobster into Joanna’s bowl.

I glanced at my own empty bowl.

“I heard from Adrian that you’re holding a wedding ceremony on your birthday?”

“He even told you that?”

Joanna leaned shyly against Adrian.

“It’s just a promise from when we were kids. Elena, you don’t mind, do you?”

A childhood promise was enough for Adrian to go to all this trouble.

But seven years of my best youth couldn’t get me one promise from him.

It was laughable.

“I don’t mind. As long as you’re happy.”

“You’re so generous, Elena. Actually, I haven’t liked any of the wedding dresses I’ve tried lately. But last time I was at your place, I saw a sketch for a main gown on your desk. I wanted to ask you to make that one for me, but I felt too embarrassed.”

“What’s there to be embarrassed about?” Adrian answered for me. “Aren’t the things in this home yours too? Elena, show Joanna the sketch. Make one for her based on that.”

“I tore that sketch up.”

“Why?”

“I didn’t want it anymore.”

“What a shame.”

Joanna’s face fell.

Adrian immediately comforted her.

“It’s okay, it’s okay. If we don’t have that one, we’ll find something even better. I’ll buy you a couture necklace then. No matter what dress you wear, it’ll look expensive.”

I stared at Adrian in disbelief.

In seven years together, Adrian had never given me any gift over a thousand dollars.

There were barely any over five hundred.

But for Joanna, he casually promised a couture necklace.

“Your Adrian really treats you well.”

On the morning of our seventh anniversary, Adrian had already put on his suit and was ready to leave.

“Don’t birthday parties usually happen at night?”

“I have to pick up the bride first. Joanna said nine is the lucky time.”

I paused.

“You’re making this that formal?”

“Of course. This is Joanna’s first time. Mine too.”

The words first time came out of Adrian’s mouth so easily.

So naturally.

He picked up his car keys and headed for the door.

“Adrian Shaw.”

“What? Is there something else?”

“Are you really going?”

Adrian frowned.

“Don’t make a scene. Everything’s ready. And I already told you, we’re just playing around.”

“Today is our seventh anniversary.”

“We don’t usually celebrate it anyway. It’s always been like that.”

I looked at him.

I looked and looked.

Until my eyes stung and swelled.

“I was joking. Go.”

“I’m leaving.”

At three in the afternoon, at the airport, Adrian sent me a message.

He transferred me fifty-two dollars and wrote, Happy anniversary.

Today, he gave Joanna a couture necklace.

He gave me fifty-two dollars.

I didn’t accept the transfer.

I sent Adrian one message back.

[Adrian, maybe we really weren’t meant to be. Let’s break up. I wish you and Joanna happiness.]

After sending it, I blocked his contact.

Then I turned off my phone.

Dragging my suitcase, I followed the boarding crowd.

Six hours later, I landed in Milan.

I turned on my phone, ready to contact the atelier director.

The next second, message notifications poured in one after another.
