He Gave Her a Wedding, So I Named My Gown Farewell Chapter 03

Coco sat in the chair beside me.

“Elena, why isn’t Adrian at home taking care of you? If he’d been there, it wouldn’t have gotten this bad.”

I held my phone and arranged the last few things for work.

“He probably had something more important to do.”

Compared with my stomach pain, taking Joanna to an amusement park was more important.

“What could be more important than you? You’re about to get married. He should put you first in everything.”

When had he ever put me first?

It had always been me putting him first.

In the seven years we were together, almost everyone around us knew I only had eyes for him.

Adrian knew it too.

My life revolved around him.

Love came before everything.

I compromised every time, without condition.

In the year I loved him most, I even gave up a competition that could’ve made me a first-rate bridal designer.

All because he said he couldn’t handle long distance and wanted me to stay by his side.

So I stayed.

For seven years.

And during those seven years, marrying Adrian became the thing I wanted most.

I imagined countless proposals.

I waited through countless anniversaries and birthdays.

In the end, all of it meant less than one childish promise he made to Joanna when they were kids.

I gave a bitter smile.

“We’re not getting married.”

“What? Why? Elena, isn’t that too impulsive? You two have been together for seven years.”

The words seven years made my eyes burn instantly.

“Coco, let me ask you something. If your boyfriend held a wedding ceremony with another woman before he married you, would you still want to keep going with him?”

Coco froze.

Then her mouth twitched into an awkward smile.

“That’s impossible, right? That’s way too insane.”

I laughed.

“Right? You think it’s ridiculous too. But it happened.”

I leaned back against the headboard and tried to suppress the urge to cry.

But tears still slipped quietly down my face.

Then I broke down without warning.

I cried so hard I couldn’t make a sound.

After I finished the IV and went home, Adrian and Joanna were both there.

“Elena.”

Her tone was perfunctory.

The two of them leaned together on the couch, playing games on their phones.

Neither of them lifted their head.

Joanna’s legs were draped over Adrian’s lap.

There wasn’t a shred of distance between them.

When I came in, she didn’t move them away.

I answered flatly, “Mm.”

Adrian glanced at the bag in my hand.

“Where did you go this afternoon? When we got back, the medicine I ordered for you was still sitting at the door.”

“Does your stomach still hurt?”

He finally remembered to ask.

“I’m fine now. I went to the hospital and got medicine.”

“You went all the way to the hospital? That’s such a hassle. The pharmacy at the gate sells it.”

The pharmacy did sell it.

But he had delayed me so long that I couldn’t even walk there.

I tore the medical tape off the back of my hand.

Their game was between rounds.

Joanna asked Adrian, “What are we eating tonight?”

“Whatever you want. Have Elena make it for you.”

“I want spicy wings and barbecue ribs.”

“Sure.”

After answering Joanna, Adrian looked at me.

“Elena, go grocery shopping later. Besides what Joanna said, get some lobster too. She likes butter-baked lobster.”

I stood at the guest room door and almost laughed.

The two of them sat together on the couch like a perfect couple.

And I truly looked like the nanny they had hired.

I sighed softly.

“My stomach doesn’t feel good today. I don’t want to cook. You two can order delivery.”

The perfect couple on the couch looked at each other.

They didn’t push it.

Half an hour later, Adrian’s delivery arrived.

Spicy wings.

Barbecue ribs.

Butter-baked lobster.

All Joanna’s favorites.

I had said several times today that my stomach didn’t feel good.

Adrian hadn’t heard a single word.

“Elena, eat too. Don’t be shy. This place Adrian ordered from is amazing.”

Joanna invited me to eat as if I were the guest here.

“I don’t have much of an appetite. You guys eat.”

I sat at the dining table with a glass of water and watched Adrian peel lobster piece by piece and place it into Joanna’s bowl.

Adrian didn’t like lobster.

He thought shelling it was annoying.

So we rarely made it at home.

But Joanna liked it.

So he filled her bowl.

Joanna brought her phone over to me.

“Elena, look. Adrian and I are almost level eighty as a couple in the game.”

I stared at the screen.

Their game IDs were matching couple names, with a red heart in the middle.

And her note for him was Hubby.

She had saved my boyfriend as Hubby.
