He Canceled The Wedding So I Went Home To Marry My Arranged Husband Chapter 05

The manager’s face did a complete 180 instantly.

“Of course, Ms. Bennett. I’ll make sure everything is perfect for you.”

I locked eyes on the sales associate who’d mouthed off earlier. The manager got it right away.

“You. Come here. Apologize. Now.”

The woman walked over, eyes red, dragging her feet the whole way.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Bennett. I didn’t know you had a new groom. I didn’t know the dress belonged to you. That’s why I let Ms. Hadley try it on. Please don’t hold it against me. I’m just an hourly employee.”

If she’d just apologized and owned up to her mistake, that would’ve been fine.

But even now, she was still weaseling out of it. No backbone whatsoever.

I let out a dry laugh and fired back.

“So a high-end bridal store doesn’t bother training its staff? You just let anyone try on a client’s custom gown whenever they feel like it? If that’s how you run things, I might have to reconsider working with you at all.”

The manager’s face went pale. She scrambled to explain.

“I’m so sorry, Ms. Bennett. We do train our staff. Every custom gown and private order is strictly off-limits to anyone but the client. She’s new, but that’s no excuse for the trouble she’s caused you.”

“How about this—we’ll give you fifty percent off all upcoming services, and this employee will be terminated immediately. Would that be acceptable?”

The second she heard “terminated,” the woman panicked. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“I’m sorry. This is my fault. Please don’t fire me.”

Her poor-me act was nothing like the high-and-mighty act she’d had just moments ago.

I didn’t feel like dragging it out. “I already got the apology I wanted. Whether you fire her or not is your business.”

Then I turned and walked out.

I wasn’t about to waste my time on some snobby salesgirl who looked down her nose at people.

My original reason for being with Grant was simple—I wanted to merge our families and marry the man I loved.

But I didn’t love him anymore.

So now it was about maximizing my options. Pick the safest person with the most to offer.

With Grant, I’d always have to worry about his father’s dozen illegitimate half-siblings pulling some stunt. Not to mention protecting my own family’s assets from being eaten up.

With the other man? None of those problems existed.

At the wedding venue, guests who knew my grandpa well came up to us, all smiles.

“Look how fast she’s grown. Already getting married. What wonderful news.”

“You old fox. Always said you wanted to keep your granddaughter around a few more years, wouldn’t even introduce her to my grandson. Turns out you already had someone picked out!”

I stood next to Grandpa, working the room with ease, chatting up the business heavyweight.

Some of the guests who didn’t know us as well started whispering under their breath.

“Who’s the Bennett girl even marrying? I thought Grant West was taking back some low-rent model who just got back from overseas?”

“The Bennett family’s golden girl can’t even beat out some trashy model. She’s still clinging to this wedding? You think she actually believes Grant will change his mind?”

“Change his mind? Not a chance. I went to college with both of them. Grant never once looked at Sloane that way. Quinn’s always been his real heart.”
