He Canceled The Wedding So I Went Home To Marry My Arranged Husband Chapter 04

I stared at Quinn in disbelief.

Her smile only got wider.

“You stayed by Grant’s side all those years,” she said.

“After his mom died, you stopped the mistress from moving in. You saved his place as the heir.”

“So why couldn’t you stick it out when he really needed you? When he had cancer?”

She had that look—pure smug victory.

“You want to know why Grant strung you along for nine years? Because he hates you.”

“He hates that you saved him halfway and then quit. He hates that your love wasn’t strong enough to see it through.”

My blood ran cold.

That’s when I saw it—everything about these nine years was a lie.

Quinn walked up behind me, still smiling. “Bet that makes you furious, doesn’t it? You’re the one who wrote him those letters. You’re the one who found him top doctors when his family gave up on him. But he thinks all of that was me.”

I kept my eyes locked on her. She tilted her head, playing innocent.

“You don’t think I lied and stole your credit, do you?”

She shook her head. “Grant figured it out on his own. From the moment I bumped into him, he decided it was me.”

“He said you’re too boring and rigid to come up with jokes that funny.”

“He said someone bright and bold like me was the only one who could save him.”

Right then, I felt utterly ridiculous and completely laughable.

No evidence. No investigation. No nothing.

Grant just decided Quinn was the one who saved him.

And then Quinn started hitting herself. Hard. Slap after slap. She clawed her own skin until there were a dozen bleeding scratches. She was screaming bloody murder.

“I’m sorry,” she cried. “I shouldn’t have touched your dress. I’m so dirty. I’m a slut.”

Grant pushed the door open. He saw her—hair a mess, clothes torn apart.

And then he hauled off and slapped me across the face.

My head spun and I saw stars. I almost hit the floor.

“Sloane! I’m the one who called off the wedding! If you’ve got a problem, take it up with me!”

I thought about what Quinn had just told me.

What if he knew? What if he knew I was the one who stayed by him all along? Would he feel even an ounce of guilt?

But the second I opened my mouth, he cut me off.

“You followed her into the fitting room because you knew there were no cameras, didn’t you? So you could get to her. Well, you got what you wanted. Happy now?”

Grant pulled out his phone right there in front of me and made a call.

“Make the announcement immediately. I, Grant West, am marrying Quinn Hadley. From this moment on, if anyone so much as touches her, they answer to me.”

He shot me a warning look. “And you—if you ever come after my wife again, I will burn the entire West family fortune to make you pay.”

Then he took off his suit jacket, wrapped it around Quinn, and walked her out.

The store manager came running up—one of the sales associates had called her. She looked like she was about to cry.

“I’m so sorry, Ms. Bennett. I was out for a meeting today, and I didn’t make things clear to the staff. I’ll fix this misunderstanding with your fiancé, I promise.”

Her face was wrecked. She thought the dress situation had just destroyed my wedding. She was absolutely devastated she’d be blacklisted from the whole industry.

“Don’t bother,” I said. “He’s not my fiancé.”

I wasn’t going to take it out on some hourly employee. I just looked at her, cold and calm.

“Clean the dress. I need it in three days.”

The manager froze. “But isn’t the wedding canceled?”

“The wedding is still on. The groom’s suit needs to be let out one size. My new fiancé is almost three inches taller than him.”
