He Canceled The Wedding So I Went Home To Marry My Arranged Husband Chapter 02

When I was seventeen, Grandpa put me through his heir test, ignoring my uncles and cousins who were circling like vultures.

But my very first project got publicly accused of plagiarism.

Grant was our partner on the deal. He ran down the leak and found out someone had copied and stolen my proposal.

Hero saves the girl.

Cheesy, but it worked.

I fell for him without looking back—that cold, serious, meticulous man.

We held ourselves to the same high standards. We carried the weight of our families’ expectations. The world saw us as the power couple.

Grant’s mother had been driven to death by a mistress who tried to move into the house. I used the media to stop that woman from taking her place.

When his illegitimate half-brother tried to steal his shares, I helped him land a nightmare client overseas and locked down his position.

When he was diagnosed with cancer and stuck in the ICU, I sent handwritten letters every day, pulling every string I had.

I was always stiff and boring, but I scoured the internet for jokes until I found ones that even made me laugh—then I wrote them down just to see him smile once.

Three years of fighting cancer. One thousand letters.

One thousand times I hid outside his ICU room and watched him through the glass.

The day his cancer finally went into remission, Grant wrote back to me for the first time.

“My life has always been nothing but calm waters,” he wrote. “Until I met you. Then it became a storm.”

Life and death together.

That really was a storm.

I thought we didn’t need words. I thought we were meant to walk the same road.

But Quinn shoved her way between us.

The day he got out of the hospital, she showed up with a bouquet of red roses and bumped right into his chest, laughing. “Hey handsome, you ruined my flowers. You have to pay me back.”

“These were for the love of my life. Now they’re in your hands. I guess that means you’re the one.”

He frowned. But he didn’t push her away.

I didn’t know it then, but that one bump landed Quinn right inside Grant’s heart.

If I had, I would’ve stepped between them no matter what.

After that, she wouldn’t leave him alone.

Big posters. Loud public confessions. Over-the-top flower displays. Dramatic love pitches.

At first, Grant frowned and avoided her.

Then he started smiling the second he saw her.

The last time, Quinn pulled out a giant box in front of the whole school.

Grant rubbed his temples and let out a helpless laugh. “Fine. I give up. Just don’t do this anymore.”

But Quinn opened the box. “Give up what? I’m just dropping off your lunchbox. Now pay up.”

Grant’s face turned red. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her deep. “Quit playing games with me.”

Three months.

It took Quinn three months to do what I couldn’t do in three years.

After that, she loved to rub it in my face. “I heard you two go way back. You don’t still see him as some untouchable older brother figure, do you?”

“Here’s the thing. That ‘untouchable older brother’ you see? To me, he’s just a toy.”

Grant didn’t feel insulted. He just messed up her hair with a stupid soft look on his face.

“You better play with me for life, then.”

Quinn slapped his cheek—lightly, playfully—and gave him a smug look. “Should I tell them how the untouchable ice king acts like a dog begging for scraps in front of me?”

Grant stared at the hickey on her neck and grinned wide. “Then you better tell them I’m a dog that bites.”
