He Canceled The Wedding So I Went Home To Marry My Arranged Husband Chapter 01

As we passed by our old college campus, Grant suddenly spoke.

“Sloane, cancel the wedding. It’s not happening in three days.”

My gaze stayed flat. “For some train wreck who can’t stop causing trouble?”

His eyes flashed a warning. “It doesn’t matter if she’s a wreck or not. I’ll always clean up her mess. As long as her heart is true to me.”

I stared at the man I’d loved for nine years. Then I smiled and nodded. “Fine. Then I hope you and your train wreck’s ‘true heart’ are very happy together.”

Nine years of love. I checked out years ago.

Time to go home, take over the family empire, and marry the guy Grandpa had picked out for me since I was a kid.

Grant’s cold eyes froze for a second. He hadn’t expected someone as rigid and serious as me to throw shade.

Then the corner of his mouth turned down. “Sloane, I admit I’ve wasted nine years of your life. But I hope you won’t let jealousy push you into hurting her.”

He didn’t bother digging into why I’d changed. He just blamed it on envy.

Watching the man I’d chased for nine years and never once had—

I suddenly felt how pointless it all was.

He talked about us working together, about putting in mutual effort for the sake of our connection.

But all along, he’d just stood there coldly watching me sink deeper into a relationship I couldn’t escape.

He didn’t love me. He didn’t care what I needed.

All he saw was a stiff, buttoned-up good girl from a good family—someone who couldn’t hold a candle to the unforgettable flame in his heart.

I used to think that even if he went off the rails for a while,

he’d eventually find it again. That we’d become partners on the same path.

But now I saw the truth. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

“Grant West. You actually remembered our nine-year pact.”

A tall woman in a tight red dress walked up from behind him. Black hair, red lips. Stunning.

She slung an arm around his shoulder like it was nothing.

“I heard you finally got over me and decided to get married. So where’s my invitation?”

“If you’re really about to tie the knot, why are you still showing up to our old meeting spot?”

Quinn’s questions hit Grant like a freight train. The cold, quiet man turned bright red and scrambled to answer.

“Who said I was getting married? That’s completely made up.”

After he said it, he shot me an uneasy look—like he was afraid I’d call him out right there.

I dropped my gaze and hid the smirk tugging at my lips. “Yeah. Completely made up.”

No wonder he’d suddenly changed course and driven us to campus instead of going to try on wedding dresses like we’d planned.

Quinn tossed her hair back with a grin. “Sloane, you’re seriously pathetic. I gave you nine whole years to lock this down, and you still haven’t managed it. You should’ve just gone for it, like I did back in the day.”

If I didn’t know who Quinn really was, I might’ve believed she was just some bright, carefree, gorgeous beauty.

She laughed as she brought up the past, and Grant reached for her hand, his voice rock solid.

“I’m not just anyone’s.”

I didn’t believe most of what Grant said.

But that line? I actually agreed with him.

Even back when Quinn was sleeping with powerful men to chase her modeling dreams—getting caught in hotel rooms over a dozen times—

Grant never let go. He begged her not to leave him.

Keep in mind, Grant came from old money. He was always cold and proud. Regular people could barely get him to glance their way.

But Quinn could wind him around her finger anytime she wanted. Drive him insane. Make him lose his mind.

She gave him a slow, sly smile and looped her arm through his. “Didn’t you say you wanted to try me out on a Maserati? Let’s see if you’re still as good as you used to be.”

Desire burned behind Grant’s eyes. He didn’t say no.

I just stood there and watched them walk off together. Didn’t lift a finger to stop them.
