He Asked Me to Divorce Her 19 Times, I Asked Him to Wait Till I Die Chapter 01

Gideon Carman sat across from me for the 19th time, asking for a divorce so he could be with his lover.

“You can have the house and the car, and we’ll split everything else equally. What more could you possibly be unhappy about?”

“Aubrielle,” He looked at me, worn out. “Lesly’s pregnant. I can’t let my child be born without a father. Can’t you try to see things from my side just a little?”

I stared at Gideon. From cheating, to trying to force me out with nothing, to this sudden compromise, and I laughed.

“Honey,” My smile was faint, my voice soft. “My answer is still the same. I’ll sign the papers only when I’m dead.”

“Aubrielle Harvey!” Gideon’s voice rose sharply. He stood and shouted at me. “You’re signing this, no matter what!”

Gideon kicked over his chair, stepped up to me, and grabbed my collar. “I’ve already backed down this far. What more do you want?”

“You’re just going to drag me down with you, aren’t you? Aubrielle! I don’t love you anymore! I don’t love you at all!”

Gideon broke down completely. He leaned against my shoulder like a wounded puppy and whispered, almost sobbing. “Aubrielle, please. Let me go.”

“I don’t want anything anymore, nothing at all. I only want her. I only want Lesly.”

I felt the tremor in his voice and thought of seven years ago, when Gideon had knelt before his whole family for me.

He’d cried so hard he shook, cried until he could barely stand, and still said, “I don’t want the arranged marriage. I don’t want the person you picked for me. I only want Aubrielle. I love Aubrielle. I love her hopelessly. I only want to be with Aubrielle.”

Gideon was the favored heir, the only successor to the Carman family. All he had to do was nod, and a life of power and privilege would have been his, stepping effortlessly above the rest.

But Gideon didn’t take it.

He stood firmly by my side, using the same tone, the same expression, and said, “Aubrielle, I can give up everything. Even my life. I only want you.”

Only seven years had passed. Everything had changed.

Gideon had fallen for someone else. In the same tone, the same expression, he begged me, “Aubrielle, please… let me go. I only want to be with her. I love her hopelessly. I only want to be with her, even if I have nothing.”

The proud heir of the Carman family was bending low for love, humbled by affection.

Now. I felt the warmth against my shoulder, listened to his voice, and my chest still ached tight, my throat burning.

I sighed softly, “No.”

“What are you doing?” Lesly Vaughn suddenly stood in the doorway, screaming at the top of her lungs.

Gideon froze all over. I met Lesly’s gaze and smiled. “Can’t you tell? We’re legally married. We don’t need to report anything to you, do we?”

“Aubrielle!” Gideon and Lesly spoke at the same time.

Lesly lunged at me like a madwoman to slap me, but I grabbed her wrist hard.

At the same moment, Gideon slapped me across the face. His face went stiff. He stared at his own hand in disbelief.

Lesly laughed out loud. “Bitch! See that!”
