He Asked Me to Divorce Her 19 Times, I Asked Him to Wait Till I Die Chapter 03

“I thought I could let her go. But…” Gideon’s voice turned firm. “I can’t. I can’t lose Lesly, just like I couldn’t lose you back then.”

Tears poured down my face as I listened. My chest felt ripped open violently, every organ inside me throbbing in pain so sharp I could barely breathe.

I grabbed everything within reach and threw it at Gideon. He let himself be hit until he was bleeding, still not dodging.

I dropped to my knees in front of him, crying, clutching at him and demanding, “Why! Why, Gideon! Why?”

Why did you choose me?

Why did you love me?

Why did you give me a home against all odds only to destroy it with your own hands?

Why did you hold an umbrella over me only to tear it apart? Why!

Gideon said nothing. He didn’t hold me like he used to.

When I leaned in recklessly to kiss him, he turned away and refused to look at me.

“Lesly said that if she smells you on me, she won’t let me touch her anymore.”

I froze as if plunged into ice, nailed to the spot. Even my tears stopped.

I stared hard at the man in front of me as he picked up his coat and walked to the door. “Aubrielle, think about it.”

Think about it.

I laughed. I laughed until I cried, then I screamed hysterically in the empty house, until now.

Lesly sent me two messages with a wedding design attached.

[Aubrielle, see this? I can easily have what you begged for and never got. Gideon told me he left the Carman family for you back then. You built everything from nothing and didn’t even have a real wedding. How pathetic.]

Lesly laughed out loud suddenly.

[Too bad. You stayed with Gideon for seven years, built him up from nothing into the CEO Mr. Carman. Just when life got good, it’s all going to be mine. Hahaha.]

Lesly then sent a video. In the video, Gideon knelt on one knee, his eyes shining, his face full of devotion.

“Lesly, you said you wanted a big diamond, but I don’t think even that is good enough for you. So…”

Gideon opened the jewelry box. I watched as the dazzling pink diamond caught the light, and my heart gave a painful twist.

“I won this ring at auction. I hope you’ll say yes to my proposal.”

The proposal setup was romantic. All our mutual friends cheered and urged Lesly to say yes.

But Lesly asked slowly, “What about Aubrielle? Did Aubrielle ever get this kind of treatment? You know I don’t like secondhand things, not even for a ceremony.”

The people around them laughed.

Before Gideon could speak, someone answered for him. “Lesly, don’t be silly. Gideon didn’t even have a wedding banquet with that woman.”

“It was just a meal at home—and she even bought the groceries and cooked it herself. Said she didn’t want to waste money, said they needed to save while times were tight. We all laughed at her behind her back for ages.”

“How could some woman with no class ever deserve Gideon? You and him, now that’s a match made in heaven.”
