He Asked Me to Divorce Her 19 Times, I Asked Him to Wait Till I Die Chapter 02

“The one Gideon loves is me, not you! This slap is your lesson! If you dare to keep clinging to my man, I’ll destroy you!”

Lesly grabbed the still-stunned Gideon, her eyes reddening. “I noticed you hadn’t come out for a long time, and I got worried. I was afraid she’d try something shady against you.”

Tears spilled down Lesly’s cheeks, her voice cracking. “Thank god you love me. Thank god you still love me. You never changed.”

Lesly smiled through her tears.

Gideon finally snapped back to his senses and quickly wiped her tears away, soothing her. “Of course I love you. And I only love you.”

He turned to me, his gaze complicated, falling on my red, swollen cheek. “Aubrielle, I was wrong to hit you. But honestly, this all comes down to you being too stubborn.”

“Aubrielle. I don’t love you anymore.” Gideon gently stroked Lesly’s belly. “I love Lesly and our unborn child. Whether you agree or not, I’m going to spend my life with Lesly.”

He took Lesly’s hand and said to her, “Let’s go home.”

I watched Lesly nod obediently, follow Gideon to the doorway, and flash me a contemptuous smile. The look stabbed my eyes.

I remembered when I caught Gideon and Lesly in that hotel room—caught him on top of her—and how I charged at her like a madwoman, ready to slap her, ready to fight her to the death, ready to tear her apart, ready to destroy the woman who had ruined my family.

But Gideon stopped me hard and shoved me away.

My lower back slammed into a sharp table corner. I screamed, and a hot rush poured from between my legs.

Then Lesly said, “Aubrielle, I’m not breaking up with Gideon. I love him. I’m staying with Gideon for the rest of my life, whether we can get married or not.”

“Gideon,” I called out to him suddenly.

Just as he was about to close the door, I grabbed a fruit knife from the table and lunged to stab him.

But Gideon was faster; he caught my wrist and slammed me hard onto the floor.

“Aubrielle.” Gideon looked at me with pure disgust. “You’re completely insane.”

The door closed. Gideon never looked back. The living room was deadly quiet.

I remembered the first time Gideon sat across from me to negotiate. He was in the living room too, sitting on the sofa, absently rubbing our wedding ring between his fingers.

There was still a hint of guilt in his eyes as he explained, “Lesly is different from other women. She’s straightforward.”

He looked at me—fresh out of the hospital after a miscarriage, still weak and recovering—and without a trace of hesitation, he praised his mistress.

“She doesn’t have a bad bone in her. Whatever she said to you, it was only because she loves me too much. Don’t hold it against her.”

“Aubrielle.” Gideon placed the divorce papers on the table. “I’ve thought about it for a long time. I still want to end this between us. I want to bring Lesly out into the open so she doesn’t have to suffer people’s gossip. I hope you can understand.”

I was pushed by Gideon and had a miscarriage. I lost our child, already four months along.

I heard the doctor say what a shame it was. I heard the nurses complain that they couldn’t reach my husband. I heard the caregiver say that Mr. Carman was too busy, but at least he was paying well for the care.

The caregiver tried to console me. “That’s just how it is for us women. In this life, you have to learn to turn a blind eye if you want to be happy.”

My heart felt like it was being torn apart. I broke down crying in the hospital, hurt myself desperately, just to get Gideon to come see me.

But he wouldn’t even do that.

Gideon said, “Because you had the miscarriage, Lesly feels like it’s all her fault, and now she’s threatening to break up with me.”
