Adrian went completely still.

He turned to Claire.

“You’re lying to me?”

Claire almost cried.

“I’m not lying. There are only three specially numbered One Wish Willows in the entire world that can actually

grant wishes.”

“Seven years ago, you bought one while you were drunk. And on my birthday, I was lucky enough to get one

too.”

“Otherwise, how do you think Lena suddenly fell in love with you?”

“And how do you think she suddenly forgot everything about you and stopped loving you?”

“I’m begging you, Adrian. Stop this.”

“How are you any different from Lena when she used to lose it?”

Wanting proof, Adrian called Maya.

When Maya confirmed everything Claire had said, he stood there laughing hysterically.

Then he started slapping himself over and over.

“You think I’m pathetic too, don’t you?”

“I fell in love with her at first sight. I chased her for so long, and God finally gave me the chance I’d always

wanted.”

“Haha…”

“And I wasted it.”

“I brought this on myself.”

“I deserve this. Every bit of it.”

“I fucking deserve it!”

Claire was terrified.

She cried and tried to stop him.

Adrian shoved her away.

He suddenly looked as if he had aged a decade.

He still followed us after that.

After learning, bit by bit, about the life Ethan and I had shared, he finally believed how deeply I had loved

Ethan.

This time, Adrian went to Claire himself and tracked down the source for the One Wish Willows.

“She doesn’t love you.”

“Shut the fuck up!”

Adrian looked completely unhinged.

“I’ll make another wish.”

“She’ll love me again.”

“She will!”

Then he grabbed Claire by the throat.

“This is all because of you!”

“You bitch!”

“Give me back my wife!”

“Give me back my Lena!”

“Give her back to me!”

Adrian hated Claire.

He had discovered that she had been involved in the fire.

So he didn’t hold back at all.

“Go to hell!”

“You’re the one who should’ve died!”

Claire passed out in his grip.

Severe oxygen deprivation damaged her brain and left her paralyzed in the hospital.

Adrian never visited her.

Not once.

He sold everything he owned in the house.

Then he bought every One Wish Willow he could find anywhere in the world.

Unfortunately, none of them worked.

On my wedding day with Ethan, I suddenly received a call from Adrian.

“Do you really not remember any of the seven years we had together?”

“You loved me so much.”

“You loved me enough to die for me.”

“How could you just forget all of it?”

“Lena, you’re so cruel to me.”

“If I jumped off a building…”

“Would you cancel your wedding and come find me?”

“You’re insane.”

Adrian burst out laughing.

Only then did he finally understand the insecurity and suspicion that had consumed me for seven years.

The constant fear of losing someone.

Only love could make someone feel that way.

“I’m sorry.”

“I handled everything wrong.”

“If I’d made you feel safe, if I’d given you enough love, if I’d kept my distance from other women, you wouldn’t have lost yourself like that.”

“And I wouldn’t have gotten so fed up that I drove you to jump.”

“Right?”

I was about to hang up when he suddenly screamed like a madman.

“Lena, I won’t let you marry him!”

“Cancel the wedding!”

“Cancel it right now!”

“I’m begging you.”

“Don’t leave me.”

“I’ll really die.”

“I’ll jump!”

Before I could say anything, a deafening thud came through the phone.

Adrian’s voice came back faint and strained.

“It hurts, Lena…”

“It hurts so much…”

“Was this how much it hurt for you too?”

“I’m sorry…”

“I understood too late…”

Adrian had jumped from the roof of the hotel.

Twelve stories.

He died on impact.

He was still clutching our wedding rings in his hand.

The police later contacted me through one of his friends and asked me to claim his ashes.

I didn’t bother.

I had spent the entire day getting married, and I was exhausted.

Ethan was disgusted.

He had someone dump Adrian’s ashes into a filthy drainage ditch.

The wind chime in the living room tinkled softly.

I held our wedding photo against my chest, unable to hold back my tears.

“Seven years late…”

“We came so close to never getting another chance to be together.”

Ethan pulled me into his arms.

“We still have the rest of our lives.”

“We have plenty of time to fall in love all over again.”

“This time, no one will ever tear us apart again.”
