Don’t Be Scared, Hubby. This Is What You Wished For Chapter 03

Don’t Be Scared, Hubby. This Is What You Wished For Chapter 03

“Your ringtone is annoying.”

With that, he ignored me again and went right back to comforting his “coworker.”

I stared at the ended call, my head buzzing as rage made my whole body shake.

I called back, but this time, there was no answer.

“Adrian, what gives you the right to…”

He suddenly slammed on the brakes.

The momentum threw me forward into the dashboard.

Pain exploded through my nose, and tears sprang to my eyes.

“Ow…That hurts…”

The second the car came to a stop, the bodyguards outside yanked the door open and dragged me out.

I stared at Adrian.

“What is this supposed to mean?”

“They’re here to look after you.”

“The doctor said you’re emotionally unstable. This is for your own safety.”

“Stay here and recover. I’ll come get you in a week.”

A sudden burst of anger flared inside me.

“Adrian, what are you so afraid of?”

“If you’re not cheating, why do you need to keep me under guard?”

“Can you look me in the eye and say this is really a business trip?”

“All I know is, I haven’t done a single one of those disgusting things you accused me of,”he said.

Disgusting.

So apparently, as long as there was no kissing or sex, all that flirting didn’t count as betrayal.

It didn’t count as cheating.

I swallowed my anger, wiped away my tears, and forced my voice to stay calm.

“I believe you.”

“I won’t stop you from going on your business trip, and I won’t question you anymore. Send them away.”

Adrian looked at me.

“If you really believe me, and you really won’t start suspecting me again like before, prove it to me this week.”

“I promise. Just send them away!”

No impatience.

No arguing.

Just a calm look between us.

Maybe he finally realized I really was different from before.

Adrian’s tone softened a little.

“You still need to be kept under watch. What if something happens to you while I’m gone?”

“And it’s not like I’m dead set on divorcing you.”

“If you can stop being so jealous and suspicious all the time, we can still keep this marriage going.”

So even if I changed, all I’d get was a marriage that could merely keep going.

I let out a cold laugh.

Those seven years stolen by a wish felt more and more like a waste.

“I said I’d do it, and I will…”

“Lena, be good!”

He gave the bodyguards a look and hurried away.

No matter how much I shouted or cursed after him, he never looked back.

Even after the bodyguards dragged me back to the hospital room, he called.

“I knew she couldn’t keep up the act for more than a few seconds.”

“Keep a close eye on her. If she sneaks out and ruins our trip, I won’t let any of you off the hook.”

I looked at the chains on the window and gave a bitter smirk.

“Wife? I’m more like his prisoner.”

The bodyguard remained expressionless.

“This is for your own good. You heard him. If you get away, we’ll be held responsible.”

The door shut.

I shouted until my voice went hoarse and pounded on the door until my palms were red and swollen.

No one answered.

Twenty minutes later, a doctor came in during rounds.

I smashed the bathroom mirror and gripped a shard of glass, pointing it at the bodyguards surrounding me.

“Back off! All of you! Or I swear, there’s no telling what I’ll do!”

One hour left.

Ethan still hadn’t returned my calls or answered my messages.

I couldn’t wait any longer.

The bodyguards rushed me anyway, as if they didn’t care what I might do.

NO!

I couldn’t let myself pass out.

I clung desperately to the bodyguard’s collar…

But darkness swallowed me anyway.

When I woke again, forty minutes had passed.

Ethan’s flight took off in twenty minutes.

Twenty minutes.

That was all I had left.

I threw off the blanket and got out of bed.

The moment my feet hit the floor, the room spun, and I crashed hard to the ground.

“Lena.”

I looked up, cold sweat covering my face.

Claire stood a short distance away, watching me with a calm smile.

“I know you don’t remember the seven years you were married to Adrian.”

“I can get you out of here.”

“But you have to promise me one thing.”

“Never come back.”

I caught the vicious look that flashed across her face, even if it lasted only a second.

So when she put me into a van, I secretly slipped the shard of mirror into my pocket.

Halfway there, the driver suddenly tried to turn onto a side road.

I drove the shard into him with all my strength.

Then I threw the door open, jumped out, and ran for the main road.

I flagged down a taxi.

“Airport. Hurry!”

The driver gave me a wary once-over.

Then he floored it toward the airport.

I was just starting to breathe again.

Then I looked outside and recognized the road.

My heart nearly stopped.
